In an effort of collaboration with different schools at IE University, the Datalab professor Rafael Ballester has become a work team member in the recently approved Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence “Lawtomation”. The Centre is led by IE professor Francisco de Elizalde and includes multiple professors from the Law and Business schools, focusing on the impact of automation on law, algorithmic decision making, policymaking, and the growing role of AI, both in private legal relationships and in relationships between administrations and citizens. It also includes an Observatory on e-Justice and a data science Lab seeking to train machine learning models on EU law court decisions. The project has been granted 100,000 euros (financed by the European Commission, under the Erasmus+ programme) and is to be executed from 2022 to 2025. For a summary of the Centre’s scope, team, news and publications, please check its official site at https://lawtomation.ie.edu/.
