The new Diploma in Strategic Interior Design is the perfect fit for professionals who wish to work while they study.

Our exciting new Diploma in Strategic Interior Design is about developing a profound understanding of the interconnectedness of design and the built environment, and how both affect human behavior, experiences and therefore business.

Launched at IE Tower on February 16, 2023, leading voices from the design world representing companies such as Vitra, Savills, AECOM, ciznak dalmas and FRAME magazine—the diploma’s media partner—joined us to introduce a program designed to bring individuals into the next stage of their careers.

The six-month program’s hybrid design allows professionals to continue working while they study, making it beneficial for both professionals looking to advance their careers and employers who wish to enhance their employees’ skills.

What’s more, you can study the program online, with an in-person orientation at the beginning of the program and an in-person presentation of final projects at the end.

Design strategically: make every space matter

Robert Thiemann of FRAME Magazine started off the event with a call to action to all designers to create places with purpose; spaces that create meaningful, multisensorial experiences. These spaces anticipate changing needs while also prioritizing their users’ and the planet’s well-being. But in today’s climate, where technology is changing the human experience at an unprecedented rate, the future is more uncertain than ever—making it harder to design spaces that will stand the test of time.

Elvira Muñoz, the diploma’s director, highlighted the program’s focus on preparing its students to confront this uncertainty head-on.

By designing for uncertainty, designers create adaptable, versatile and resilient spaces that meet users’ ever-changing needs.

Rapha Gielgan of Vitra, meanwhile, identified this “future literacy” as an essential skill. And it’s one that graduates of the Diploma in Strategic Interior Design will gain as they prepare themselves for success in transforming cities, society, organizations and people’s experiences of the built environment.

Changing times call for changes in design

From retail and the workspace to hospitality and places of learning, our world has shifted its way of doing almost everything in recent years. Melanie Chismechian of Savills, an alum of IE School of Architecture and Design, emphasized the need for our spaces to mirror these changes in order to serve a purpose, saying that effective design requires a holistic perspective.

That’s why the program focuses on examining design from a multidimensional point of view, with a view on long-term sustainability as well as intrinsic adaptability and user-friendliness.

Graduates of the Diploma in Strategic Interior Design will have the flexibility and innovative mindset required to address the challenges the sector will present them in an evolving future.

With that in mind, the program aims to equip students with the skills and perspective necessary to create environmentally conscious designs by encouraging them to confront the challenge of reimagining and repurposing existing spaces. This is a task that can often be more difficult than creating an entirely new space.

A unique opportunity

Although it’s a new program, our Diploma in Strategic Interior Design is by no means a completely new study plan; but there was a need for a program tailored to the requirements of design professionals who wish to advance their career without sacrificing it. So what was a master’s program became a Diploma inherently designed to allow anybody who enrolls to work and study simultaneously. That makes this a unique opportunity for anyone looking to propel their design career into the future.

If that sounds like you, applying for the Diploma in Strategic Interior Design through our partnership with FRAME Magazine could get you a scholarship of up to 40%, in addition to a membership giving you access to all of FRAME’s content. Apply on this link before March 10th!
