On 19 January 2023, the IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs launched a new Center for Innovation in Global Politics and Economics (CIGPE). We encourage you to stay tuned to this website as we announce new developments.
In an era of geopolitical uncertainty, and of economic and societal challenges, new approaches to problem-solving are needed: new ways of thinking that will drive innovative solutions to the issues facing the world, encourage sustainable development and build bridges between cultures and communities.
For this reason, IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs is launching a global politics and economics academic think tank.
The Center for Innovation in Global Politics and Economics brings together global thought leaders and key players from around the world to promote original and innovative perspectives while engaging younger generations as drivers of change. It also aims to bring new voices from around the world, contributing different viewpoints based on solid research and evidence.
The Center looks to anticipate global challenges by exploring the topics that push global political and economic boundaries. We actively engage with the private sector and other key stakeholders, and seek the input of students and young leaders for innovative ideas and new approaches; all within IE University’s diverse and dynamic ecosystem of schools, centers and corporate, academic and institutional partners.
The Center for Innovation in Global Politics and Economics stands on three core pillars.
Firstly, we seek to understand and anticipate the major trends in global politics and economics, and the challenges those trends present to tech development, the environment, international security, human rights and public health.
Secondly, we assess the existing instruments and mechanisms governing global politics and finance; their architecture, how they function, the enforcement of their statutes, their legitimacy and the resources available to international institutions.
Thirdly, we seek to influence mindsets by promoting diversity and cosmopolitanism to modernize people’s thinking and approaches.
Our work around these three pillars is practical, designed to produce concrete actions and effective plans to address the most pressing global issues. By contributing original knowledge through applied research that produces reports, working documents, policy briefs and seminars, we are an active player on the global stage.
The Center for Innovation in Global Politics and Economics, through regional and thematic observatories, closely monitors the latest developments in global politics and economics. In a first phase, we are capitalizing on our School’s longstanding initiatives, including:
The Center for Innovation in Global Politics and Economics will draw on the School’s longstanding tradition of applied research. It will relaunch the existing Transatlantic Relations Initiative celebrating a new edition of its acclaimed Transatlantic Conference. CIGPE will also host a Latin America Observatory and will gradually develop new regional and thematic programs, building on the knowledge ecosystem of IE University. The Center will work closely with the Center for the Governance of Change and will advance dialogue on the topics that matter for global affairs, hosting conferences, debates and seminars with thought leaders. Eventually, it will also serve as an incubator for practical initiatives designed to improve Global Politics and Economics, accelerating real projects in the public, private and nonprofit spaces.
With the future of the European Union currently in question, IE has launched an Observatory on the European Union, co-chaired by Paz Guzman, Senior Economist at the European Commission Representation in Spain and Salvador Llaudes, Analyst at the Real Instituto Elcano. The Observatory periodically gathers experts, practitioners, and policy makers to discuss present challenges and opportunities in the European Union. The Observatory was formerly chaired by Josep Borrell, Foreign Minister of Spain.
In light of current political upheavals and developments in Latin America (Venezuela, Nicaragua, Brazil to name a few), IE has launched an Observatory on Latin American Politics and Economics, chaired by Germán RĂos, Senior Partner at Atrevia and Professor at IE University. The Observatory periodically gathers experts, practitioners, and policy makers to discuss salient issues on the Latin American region.
Recognizing the importance of Germany as the economic and political engine of Europe, IE has launched an Observatory on Germany, co-chaired by Jose Maria Beneyto, Professor of International Public Law and International Relations, CEU. The Observatory periodically gathers key Spanish and German executives in order to foment stronger business ties between Germany and Spain.
In light of the growing importance of the Hispanic population in the United States in both the economic and political spheres, IE has launched an Observatory on US-Hispanic Politics, chaired by Daniel Ureña, President of The Hispanic Council. The Observatory periodically gathers experts, practitioners, and policy makers to discuss the relevance of the Hispanic community in US politics.
We also act as an incubator for practical initiatives designed to improve global politics and economics, accelerating real projects in the public, private and nonprofit spaces. And we advance dialogue on the topics that matter by hosting conferences, debates and seminars with global thought leaders
We take innovation seriously. It’s a core philosophy at IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs and that is no different at our new Center. We are driving innovation in curricula related to global affairs, with a strong focus on corporate training, further and higher education, through ad hoc courses, and by reaching out to the general public.
By engaging in open communication through events, including an annual conference, and a dynamic presence on contemporary media platforms, we are engaging the younger generations whose participation is so critical for a better future. And we’ll be working hand-in-hand with esglobal, the leading Spanish online window to the world.
The Center for Innovation in Global Politics and Economics is an interactive, highly visible and accessible leader in the search for new approaches to solving the world’s global political and economic challenges.
