Dae-Jin Lee talks about SORA, the new OpenAI video generator, at Vive! Segovia

April 2, 2024

A couple of weeks ago, we shared news of Dae-Jin Lee’s interview on Vive! Segovia Radio, where he discussed the future of AI and its ethical implications. This week, Professor Lee was invited back to the program to talk about SORA, OpenAI’s new technology that enables users to generate entire videos from a text prompt.

The interview opened by addressing the major concern within the media industry: will SORA displace video creators? Professor Lee argued that, rather than eliminating jobs, this AI tool would help artists to enhance their work and better illustrate their ideas.

Regarding education, Dae-Jin Lee states that SORA could revolutionize the way historical events are taught. Video generation will provide a more detailed and realistic portrayal of ancient occurrences and artistic creations. Professor Lee shared how similar AI tools like ChatGPT have already enhanced the quality of academic projects. This language tool helps students correct typos and refine their writing style. However, Professor Lee noted the pitfalls of over-reliance on such tools, as he sometimes had to question students “Have you really written this?”

Dae-Jin believes that AI tools will shape the future. He closed the interview by stressing the importance of education adapting to these changes. We must teach new generations to use AI tools to their advantage, but always with caution and in a sensible way.
