BIR and Dual BIR language requirements

All bachelor’s in International Relations or dual degree bachelor’s in International Relations students must take three years of mandatory language courses (6 courses – 18ECTS in total) as part of their study plan at IE University.

In order to graduate, all non-native Spanish speakers must demonstrate a minimum level of B1* proficiency before graduation in 4th or 5th year. speakers must demonstrate a minimum level of B1* proficiency before graduation in 4th or 5th year. This requirement can be satisfied by passing Spanish Intermediate 1 and 2 courses at IE University, which students can take at no additional cost. Also, you can choose Spanish as your mandatory language.

You also have the option to add an additional language course to your enrollment as a “complementary training”.

If you want to add the Spanish language course to your studies, access the IE Language Passport(*) to complete the necessary steps.

*The cost per credit is the same as your degree. If you have a scholarship, the same percentage also applies. For any questions regarding the cost or payment of these credits, please contact the Administration Department.

**Language courses can be recognized as elective credits toward the total required for graduation. (EXCEPT Spanish Beginner and Intermediate courses and dual degree students). There is no additional fee for credit recognition if you have already paid for the course.
