Compliance Matters #4 | Conversation with Antonio del Campo - President of the Institute of Compliance Officers | IE University & Elecnor Podcast

In this fifth episode we talk to Antonio del Campo, President of the Institute of Compliance Officers, to discuss the purpose of this institution and the evolution of compliance in Spain.

Our Host Enrique Aznar, academic director of the IE-Elecnor Observatory on sustainable compliance, and Del Campo talk about the Institute of Compliance Officers, commenting on how it was born from the hand of people involved in compliance and with the aim of developing the function for people who are starting, educate young professionals who want to do these functions, and help those who are already with specific cases. The institution is non-profit oriented and has the sole objective of developing the function.

Antonio explains that the term compliance has become a “comfortable” word for companies, and therefore it is used for many things. The term compliance can be very broad, although its main natural functions are: corporate compliance, anti-corruption, consumer protection, and privacy, to name a few.

Compliance has changed in Spain since the reform of the criminal liability of legal persons, and Mr. Antonio assures that there is a before and an after. Only companies with a specific risk developed this type of functions, but since the entry into force of the reform, all companies to a greater or lesser extent must develop compliance programs for the non-financial risks that are within their institution.
