Compliance Matters #4 | Conversaciones con Eduardo Torres-Dulce – Fiscal y Ex-Fiscal General del Estado | Podcast IE University & Elecnor

In this fourth episode we talk with Mr. Eduardo Torres-Dulce, Prosecutor and Former State Attorney General, to discuss the evolution of Compliance in Spain over the past few years.

Our Host Enrique Aznar, academic director of the IE-Elecnor Observatory on Sustainable Compliance, and Torres-Dulce review the evolution of compliance legislation in Spain and how companies have adapted to these changes.

Several companies with a global perspective already adhered to the 2015 regulations long before they were implemented. However, it was not until after implementation that most Spanish companies, faced with the “threat” of the criminal code, began to incorporate compliance into their corporate cultures.

It is now a necessity in business to adhere to principles such as equality, anti-corruption, non-discrimination, and sustainability, not only to comply with regulations, but also to gain the confidence of the public opinion.

Mr. Torres-Dulce concludes by discussing the role of the compliance officer, defining him as an essential piece because he “takes the temperature” of the company’s compliance plans and ethical culture. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of having a specialized, professional structure with autonomy and independence to be able to perform their work to the best of their ability.
