The Provost

Manuel Muñiz

MANUEL MUÑIZ is the Provost of IE University in Madrid and a Professor of Practice of International Relations. As Provost he is a key contributor to IE’s strategic development, and responsible for its international expansion and strategic alliances. Dr. Muñiz is also the Dean of IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs.  

Dr. Muniz holds a JD (Law) from the Complutense University in Madrid, an MSc in Financial Markets from the IEB, a Master in Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and a DPhil (PhD) in International Relations from the University of Oxford. 

In June of 2023 Dr. Muñiz was elected President of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA), the preeminent organization bringing together the world’s top schools of global affairs and public policy. On that same year he was appointed a Senior Fellow at Brookings’ Foreign Policy Program. From 2020 to 2021 Dr. Muñiz was State Secretary (Vice Minister) at the Spanish Foreign Ministry. During this time, he coordinated the crafting of Spain’s 2021-2024 Foreign Action Strategy, and led the work on the National Strategy on Technology and Global Order, a document aimed at launching Spain’s Technology Diplomacy.

From 2015 to 2017 Dr. Muñiz was the Director of the Program on Transatlantic Relations at Harvard University’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. And from 2017 to 2020 he was a Senior Associate at Harvard’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, as well as one of the promoters of its Project on Europe and the Transatlantic Relationship.

AITZIBER ONAINDIA

Senior Coordinator

Aitziber Onaindia Riesco is Senior Coordinator at IE University’s Provost’s Office and IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs (SPEGA). SPEGA has an internal and adjunct faculty of over 100 professors, and 1,500 students distributed across undergraduate and graduate programs in Economics, Politics, International Relations, and International Development. As Senior Coordinator, she is a key contributor to the smooth running of operations including strategic meetings, critical protocol procedures, high-level event development, and business trips, partnerships and agenda setting efforts involving the IE Provost’s Office and SPEGA leadership.

Previously, Aitziber spent over a decade in the Marketing and Admissions departments at IE Business School, one of the world’s top academic institutions and IE’s first school founded in 1973.

Aitziber pursued her training in business and customer experience in Spain and the USA. She is currently an Executive MBA candidate at IE Business School.

Jaime de Aguinaga

Vice Provost for Strategy and Development​

Jaime de Aguinaga assists IE University’s governing bodies in shaping and executing its medium- and long-term strategies. Additionally, Aguinaga is responsible for establishing and enhancing strategic partnerships, including those with the United Nations.

María Eugenia Marín

María Eugenia Marín

Vice Provost for Academic Partnerships and Alliances

María Eugenia focuses on strengthening the portfolio of academic partnerships across all IE schools and plays a key role in the expansion of academic global alliances. Marín has over 30 years of eperience in international relations and is the former General Director of International Relations at IE University.

Irene Blázquez-Navarro​

Irene Blázquez-Navarro​

Director of IE University’s Center for the Governance of Change

Irene Blázquez-Navarro leads the applied research conducted at the Center for the Governance of Change, which studies the political, economic and societal implications of the current technological revolution and proposes solutions for overcoming its unwanted effects. Blázquez-Navarro is a legal scholar and international lawyer by training as well as a specialist in strategy, security, defense and technology.

Vice Dean of the IE school of Humanities

Catalina Tejero

Vice Dean of IE School of Humanities ​

Catalina Tejero leads the strategy of IE School of Humanitiesand the creation of alliances with leading institutions in the art world and humanities under her leadership including Instituto Cervantes, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. The Division has organized more than 300 extracurricular events since 2019, including museum visits and scenic arts shows at various cultural institutions in Madrid and Segovia as well as seminars and panels.

María José Ferrari

Vice Dean of Arts & Humanities Division​

Maria Jose Ferrari leads the academic areas of IE School of Humanities, developing new courses and programs that enrich students’ personal and professional growth through the arts and humanities. These courses span disciplines such as art, philosophy, history and cultural studies, with a special focus on the intersection of the humanities and technology and the development of public humanities projects. Under her leadership, IE University has substantially broadened its footprint in Arts and Humanities, experiencing growth in both academic courses and faculty members.
