We caught up with a few alumni from our Master in Management to learn more about their career development after graduation, and to understand how the program helped them succeed in a dynamic and competitive job market.

Embarking on a master’s degree can help you achieve your career goals in many ways. Whether or not you have a particular end goal in mind, they offer the opportunity for you to reflect and learn—all the while allowing you to explore new avenues and paths along the way.

Hans, Valeria and Lodovico are just some of our remarkable alumni making an impact in the real world of work. Graduates from one of the best master’s in management programs, they are all top professionals in their respective fields. So, how did they build successful careers with a Master in Management? We sat down with them to learn more about their bid to become leaders in the professional world, and how the program played a formative role.

Meet Hans, Senior Consultant at Deloitte

Hans Gustav Mehren joined the program back in 2020; since then, he has risen through the ranks to hold his current position at leading international firm, Deloitte. With an academic and professional background in political economy, Hans wanted to increase his business knowledge and delve into the world of consulting. The flexibility of the Master in Management allowed him to choose a specialty track—in this case, Digital Business—where he could apply what he learned in the classroom to his role at Deloitte.

While still a student, Hans made the most of the additional opportunities on offer. He joined the JIIE Consulting program where he was able to work on real-life consulting projects with actual clients and build his network from day one.

Hans successfully landed his job at Deloitte midway through the program and has since thrived at the company. Being able to obtain results from a range of diverse, multidisciplinary teams is essential when working in consulting, and Hans is grateful that the program provided him with the opportunities to develop his teamwork and interpersonal skills.

“The Master in Management brings together a very diverse group in regards to academical, professional and demographic backgrounds; which is extremely interesting, especially for someone who intends to work in a larger multinational company. I use these skills in my line of work on a daily basis.”

Valeria, Public Affairs and Sustainability Advisor at DNB

Back in 2016, Valeria Isabel Clivas first joined IE Business School to pursue the Bachelor in Business Administration. After completing the program, she started looking for a way to combine her background in finance with her interest in sustainability. For Valeria, the ability to continue developing her entrepreneurial and social skill set was essential, as it would help her transition into the corporate side of the finance industry—and she did just that.

She is now the public affairs and sustainability advisor at DNB—based in Oslo, Norway—where she guides governments and other international institutions to develop their activities toward making a sustainable impact.

The true success of Valeria’s story is how her ambition and drive motivated her to pursue her passions. She’s now making a big difference in her role, and gets to do so in a field she is truly interested in.

“Being able to develop strong presentation and public speaking skills, as well as a unique entrepreneurial mindset for problem-solving, turned out to be extremely useful in my daily life.”

Lodovico, Sales Development Representative at Salesforce

When Lodovico Piccardi started his Master in Management, it was at the height of COVID-19. Nevertheless, he didn’t let a global pandemic get in his way of success. With a background in hospitality, plus a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Lodovico was keen to secure the skills and knowledge he needed to embark on a career in a new field.

Since the beginning of 2022, Lodovico has already acquired a wealth of experience that has empowered him to become a leading professional in the field. From KPMG to his most recent role at Salesforce, Lodovico applies the knowledge and attributes he learned during the program to execute high-quality audit work on a range of complex audit engagements, including management of risk, independence and professional skepticism. With a special focus on real estate and healthcare, he is taking the finance world by storm.

Lodovico shared that the most valuable skills he developed during his time in the master’s program are a blend of hard and soft skills—such as interacting with others in a team and decision-making under pressure. While at KPMG he had to sit a number of tests, including a Quantitative Test. Luckily, the intense Financial Reporting and Accounting modules he studied during the master’s program helped him to solidify his knowledge and, quite literally, “put them to the test” at KPMG.

“Being able to learn how to code and create financial models was really helpful in ensuring I acquired the essential know-how.”
