Our Ecosystem Area31 is the center of all entrepreneurial activity at IE. This space, home to IE’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, was created to provide our young visionaries a place to develop their disruptive start-up ideas.
Area 31 is the hub of entrepreneurial activity at IE and the home of its Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
Teams who have been accepted into IE’s startup accelerator, the Venture Lab, work in Area 31, while receiving training, mentoring and resources to validate their ideas and launch. A select number of startups, created by IE alumni, also work in Area 31, contributing their experience and skills to the overall ecosystem.
Area 31 hosts Venture Networks almost every Thursday at 7pm, and we welcome everyone to attend and have a beer with us afterwards to mingle and network. These weekly events have been held regularly since October 2011 and have become a fixture within Madrid’s greater entrepreneurial ecosystem. Several alumni have even exported Venture Networks in their local ecosystems upon returning to their home countries, and now you can find Venture Networks organized in places like Johannesburg.
Area 31 is a space where entrepreneurship is experienced in many of its facets and where innovation is explored. Events related to entrepreneurship like workshops, hackathons, clinics and fire-side chats are also often held in the evenings in Area 31.
Area 31 is also where you can find most of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation’s team when we are in Madrid. We are responsible for the everyday management of all of the programs and initiatives designed and executed by the Center.
Incubation & Acceleration
IE offers its students access to programs that make it possible to explore entrepreneurship before graduating and even as alumni.
IE’s Startup Lab, currently offered in our IMBA program, and Venture Lab Accelerator (open to all IE students and alumni) provide students the opportunity to incubate business ideas. Meanwhile, the Venture Lab Accelerator is designed specifically for teams who have ideas for scalable business models targeting high-growth markets. Teams in both programs are encouraged to explore business opportunities and to form balanced teams to take advantage of them. Teams receive support in the form of training workshops and clinics, mentorship from entrepreneurs, industry coaches and investors, and have the chance to compete in Venture Day Madrid, IE’s demo day, before a panel of investors.
The most committed teams who launch are extended the benefits of a typical accelerator through our partnerships with organizations such as Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Stripe, law firms, marketing agencies, etc.
