With the aim of promoting the GovTech ecosystem in Latin America and the Caribbean and make visible the potential of this type of solutions we invite you to the GovTech Venture Day organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), its innovation laboratory IDB Lab, and the IE PublicTech Lab.
The GovTech Venture Day is a virtual event aimed at innovative startups and SMEs that can provide solutions to local governments of IDB member countries in the region. This edition seeks solutions to the challenge of data-driven decision making.
How can technology help cities improve their decision-making process to respond to the needs of citizens?
From the solutions received, 5 finalists will be chosen to present to the 200 member cities of the IDB Cities Network and the region's innovation and investment ecosystem. The winning startup will become part of the South Summit 2021 finalists list.

Who can participate?
If you have a company…
- With traction in the market, you have worked with public client or large enterprise.
- Technology-based
- What fits in the marked innovation space → data-driven improvement of public decision making in cities.
- Startup or SME
- With the ability to generate value for the public
- And you are already, or want to start, working with local administrations in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Based in one of the 48 member countries of the IDB Group.

What's the prize?
The winner of each Venture Day will have the opportunity to pitch on IE’s stage at the South Summit in order to win a full pass to the event, which includes access to the Investor Den, conferences on all stages, one-on-one meetings and a matchmaking service with investors and big corporations, etc. The event takes place in the beginning of October 2021.
The winning startup will also have the chance to go to attend a an online acceleration program , featuring IE’s own mentors and experts, in order to prepare for South Summit and advance in multiple areas of their business.
What is the South Summit?
South Summit is a leading event from the South that connects the innovative entrepreneurs with the world’s most important investors and corporations seeking to improve their global competitiveness through innovation. The event includes keynote talks and debates with global innovation leaders, meetings with the largest business angels and venture capitalist firms, a startup competition with best success stories and business and networking opportunities. What will winning the Competition mean for my startup?
Venture Day winners will be invited to Madrid to attend IE Business School’s four-day acceleration program in order to help them carefully prepare their pitch for the South Summit stage. They will then go on to pitch alongside all other Venture Day winners that are organized worldwide.

Important Dates
The deadline to submit your solution is open until March 21, 2021 (midnight, EST).
Finalists will be announced on March 26, 2021.
And…if you have never worked with Public Administrations, or you have, but still have many doubts, this program offers a 4h GovTech Bootcamp to 30 selected startups or SMEs.
The participants will be selected among the startups or SMEs that sign up for the Venture Day.
GovTech Bootcamp
Date and time: Tuesday April 6, 2021 at 10am (EST / Washington DC) or 4pm (CEST / Madrid)
Duration: 4hs.
We include online sessions focused on understanding what differentiates the public customer from other types of customers, solving barriers to entry, and establishing specific sales strategies. You can’t miss it!

It is aimed at public innovators, startups and corporations committed to improving the lives of citizens through the use of innovation and technology. The PublicTech Lab contributes to the collaboration and understanding between public and private actors in the creation of technological solutions for a more sustainable and inclusive society.
Agenda
Three govtech startups will propose, based on their experience selling to governments, their recommendations to generate sustainable govtech ecosystems.
Presentation and pitching of the five finalist startups in the contest. Each of them will have five minutes to explain their solution, followed by 2 minutes of questions from the jury.
Three mayors will talk about measures and actions they are taking to facilitate collaboration with innovative companies in their cities.
