April 2nd - Legaltech Venture Day Cape Town

Legaltech Venture Day Cape Town

Law is undergoing a true revolution due to globalization and technology. Legaltech is booming and new players and startups focused on legal technology are disrupting the industry in incredible ways, providing powerful opportunities for law firms, corporations, private and public institutions.
With the aim of connecting and fostering this global, legaltech ecosystem, the Law Schools Global League, University of Cape Town, IE Law School and law firm ONTIER, launch the Cape Town Legaltech Venture Day. This cutting-edge, highly competitive global competition is designed to identify and support those startups that have the ability to have a positive impact on major challenges faced by legal operators—whether private or public—as well as legal systems, so as to improve their operations thereby furthering the cause of justice.
In the upcoming months, we will select startups based on their originality, financial viability, and ability to have a positive impact on major challenges faced by the legal sector.
If you are a startup working on developing solutions, improving substantially the normal operation of legal systems and actors—whether public or private—take part in this Legaltech Venture Day!

About this year’s host:
The University of Cape Town (UCT) is home to Africa’s top law school, and one of the top 100 law schools in the world. The UCT Faculty of Law is 160 years old and has grown from one part-time professor back in 1859 to being the home of South Africa’s most sought-after law graduates. In the process of establishing a Centre for Law & Technology, UCT Law already houses a number of cutting edge legaltech initiatives. These include (amongst others) AfricaLII, an online legal information institute and significant tool for social and legal change in sub-Saharan Africa; and the LawTechLab, created for collaborative research, project development, and teaching and learning at the intersection of law and digital technology.

About Global Legaltech Venture Days:
This year we will embark on an epic journey and travel across eight countries (Brazil, Italy, UK, Spain, South Africa, Netherlands, India and Australia) to discover the next generation of the most innovative legal tech startups. Winners of the eight Legaltech Venture Days will compete in the final global competition in Madrid, Spain (Spring 2020) where a panel of judges will select a final winner.
