SMART TRADE VENTURE DAY

IE and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) are hosting a global challenge for startups that seeks to find compelling smart trade initiatives related to a post-COVID-19 world. Projects highlighting trade digitalisation, health, supply chain resilience, trade finance, access to finance, sustainable trade, as well as issues relevant to helping small business are of particular interest.

The objective of the Competition is to:
- Showcase knowledge and know-how
- Foster entrepreneurship and innovation
- Encourage entrepreneurs to have a positive impact on major social challenges
- Empower startups by connecting them with top investors and corporations
- Provide a platform for startups and students to gain international visibility and exposure

The pre-selected startups will have the chance to pitch their projects to a panel of international experts represent by IE, ICC and other major international organisations.

The competition

  • Who can participate?

    Who can participate?

    Criteria to apply

    We are interested in supporting inclusive innovators and startups that are using sustainable ways to solve important challenges faced by public and private businesses in a wide range of areas and scales.

    The startups participating in the Competition must:

    • Be constituted or in the process of being constituted as a startup
    • Be innovative with a product/service, business model and/or route to market
    • Show scalability with international commercial potential and a business model
    • Have a team with relevant skills and experience
    • Have proof of marketability through clear and large market opportunity
  • What's the prize?

    The winner of each Venture Day will receive: 

      • $10k in AWS Promotional Credit valid for 2 years
      • 1 year of Business Support (up to $1,500)
      • Opportunities to Qualify for Additional Credits

    For each finalist in each Venture Day:

      • $5k in AWS Promotional Credit valid for 2 years
      • 1 year of Business Support (up to $1,500)
      • Opportunities to Qualify for Additional Credits

    For all startups that complete the formula for the Startup Competition:

      • $1k in AWS Promotional Credit valid for 2 years
      • 1 year of Developer Support (up to $350)
      • Opportunities to Qualify for Additional Credits

    The winner of each Venture Day will also have the opportunity to pitch on IE’s stage at the South Summit in order to win a full pass to the event, which includes access to the Investor Den, conferences on all stages, one-on-one meetings and a matchmaking service with investors and big corporations, etc. The event takes place in the beginning of October 2020. The winning startup will also have the chance to go to attend a week-long intense acceleration program in Madrid, featuring IE’s own mentors and experts, in order to prepare for South Summit and advance in multiple areas of their business.

    What is the South Summit?

    South Summit is a leading event from the South that connects the innovative entrepreneurs with the world’s most important investors and corporations seeking to improve their global competitiveness through innovation. The event includes keynote talks and debates with global innovation leaders, meetings with the largest business angels and venture capitalist firms, a startup competition with best success stories and business and networking opportunities.     What will winning the Competition mean for my startup?

    Venture Day winners will be invited to Madrid to attend IE Business School’s four-day acceleration program in order to help them carefully prepare their pitch for the South Summit stage. They will then go on to pitch alongside all other Venture Day winners that are organized worldwide.
