HOUSING OF THE FUTURE VENTURE DAY SINGAPORE
With an unparalleled rise in urbanization, the global surge in demand for adequate shelter has put a massive strain on the housing market, which is struggling to keep up with demand around the world. Rent is rising and income stagnating, with families and individuals feeling the pressure. In fact, according to a recent McKinsey Global Institute report on housing affordability, if the current trend persists by 2025 over 1.6 billion people could be left without housing security.
Beyond housing supply and affordability, there are more aspects to take into consideration. For example, we have to consider how climate change is affecting the housing market, and how sustainable practices can be incorporated in this area. In addition, exploring opportunities for technological innovation in financing and building homes could open new avenues of support for buyers and tenants alike.
So, what can be done? Facing such a complex issue requires a multifaceted approach, and a dialogue that involves both public and private stakeholders. But most of all, we need ideas. In January 2019, IE Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center and IE School of Architecture and Design are putting on a Venture Day in Singapore for all start-up initiatives dedicated to making housing of the future more plentiful, affordable and beneficial to all.
