Berend van der Kolk is an Assistant Professor at IE, and his research interests are in performance measurement, management accounting and control, business ethics and public sector management. He holds degrees in Accounting (BSc, MSc), Business Administration (MSc), Philosophy (BA) and Management Accounting (PhD) from the University of Groningen (NL), and held visiting positions at the University of Sydney (AUS) and the London School of Economics (UK). His research is published in leading international journals such as Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, The European Accounting Review, Financial Accountability and Management, and Accounting Education, and has featured in outlets such as Holland Management Review and The Guardian. For his role in the course on Management Control he was awarded in 2018 the Teaching Excellence Award by IE.
