Dr. Emma Hooper

Professor, IE School of Global and Public Affairs

Dr. Hooper is a Middle East and South Asia specialist based in Madrid. She has taught at IE since 2013.  She directed a policy research project on Afghanistan and Pakistan for the Barcelona Center for International Affairs from 2011-16. Her specialisations include applied international relations, the political economy, and processes of change and development. She has been an independent consultant to the World Bank, the UN system, the Asian Development Bank and bilateral aid agencies. She taught business strategy in EADA Barcelona from 2008-11. She has a PhD from the London School of Economics, and a BA (Hons) in Near & Middle Eastern History from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. She has worked in over 30 countries including Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, the Occupied Territories, Tunisia, South Sudan, and has worked on Iran and Saudi Arabia while based elsewhere. In addition to teaching at IEGPA, she is currently consulting for the World Bank.
