Latin America Observatory

The Latin America Observatory provides a research-driven platform to explore the region’s key policy challenges and opportunities, bridging Latin American and European perspectives. By fostering dialogue and collaboration between experts, policymakers, and institutions, the Observatory contributes to policy debates shaping the region’s political, economic, and social landscape.

Our research and initiatives focus on:

  • Productive Transformation: Examining the evolution of Latin America’s economic model, including industrial policy, technological innovation, regional trade integration, and the transition to knowledge-based economies. The Observatory provides insights on fostering competitiveness, reducing structural vulnerabilities, and positioning the region in global value chains.
  • Democracy and Institutions: Analysing the state of democratic governance in Latin America, the resilience of institutions, electoral dynamics, rule of law, and challenges such as polarization and disinformation. The Observatory offers recommendations for strengthening democratic processes and enhancing institutional effectiveness.
  • Climate Change: Assessing Latin America’s approach to climate action, including environmental governance, energy transitions, biodiversity protection, and green finance. The Observatory explores how Latin American countries can balance sustainable development with economic growth and strengthen their role in global climate negotiations.
  • Social Inequality: Investigating structural inequalities in income distribution, access to education and healthcare, gender equity, and social mobility. The Observatory provides policy-driven research on strategies to promote inclusive development and reduce socioeconomic disparities.

By integrating research, policy engagement, and transatlantic dialogue, the Latin America Observatory seeks to strengthen cooperation between the region and Europe, equipping policymakers, scholars, and business leaders with the tools to navigate Latin America’s evolving role in the global order.
