IE IN A NUTSHELL
IE University was founded in 1973 by a group of entrepreneurs who had one goal in mind: to reinvent higher education.
Since then, we’ve become a leader in impactful learning across the globe, driving positive change through education, research and innovation. FIFTY YEARS OF INNOVATION
1973: IE IS BORN
IE Business School opens its doors in Madrid’s business district, offering a number of MBA programs as well as the Master of Laws LL.M. and the Master in Legal Consultancy.
THE 80S: NEW DEPARTMENTS & PARTNERSHIPS
The Alumni Association and the Centre for Entrepreneurship are founded, as well as the IE International Advisory Board, the IE Foundation and the US-based IE Fund, promoting research and awarding scholarships.
THE 90S: EXPANSION OF INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE
IE University expands its international presence by opening offices worldwide. Today IE has 30 international hubs around the globe.
PROMOTING NEW TRENDS THROUGH INNOVATION & DIVERSITY
Our first blended-format programs are launched, putting IE University on the map as a pioneer in e-learning. We also join the Sumaq Alliance in Latin America, and team up with Brown University to create the IE–Brown Executive MBA program.
GROWTH & CONSOLIDATION OF WORLDWIDE RECOGNITION
We continue forging collaborations and agreements with universities around the world. We currently have 260 collaborations with prestigious schools in 71 countries.
THE EARLY 2000S: SHAPING A NEW GENERATION
IE University launches its first undergraduate programs in 2006, a critical milestone for the institution. Students come from all around the world to complete future-forward, hands-on bachelor’s degrees.

IE University has grown exponentially. Today, we offer a diverse catalog of impact-driven programs across six schools, and our community of 75,000+ alumni are driving change in their industries in every corner of the globe.
