Hay Festival Segovia 2023. The Future of Humanism in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
From September 14th to 17th, IE University will host over 15 events of the 18th edition of the Hay Festival Segovia, the largest gathering of literature and thought in Spain since 2006.
Hay Festival is a global gathering that brings together readers and writers from all over the world with the objective of sharing stories and ideas. Through various events, this festival provides a platform where writers, experts, and thought leaders share their wisdom and experiences in discussions that cover literature, visual arts, journalism, music, geopolitics, and sustainability.
This year, Hay Festival Segovia delves into the uncertainties that arise in a future dominated by technology, inviting attendees to imagine a humanistic future in all its complexity and to find answers through literature, arts, thought, and science.
Once again, IE Foundation, along with IE University, takes pride in being an academic and main partner of the festival, which will take place from September 14th to 17th in Segovia, transformed into the global capital of debate and exchange of ideas.
During these four days, IE University’s Segovia campus will host more than 15 events with a lineup of top-notch guests, creating an favorable environment for intellectual exchange and inspiration.
Profiles that will make an impact on IE University’s Segovia campus
Hay Festival Segovia 2023 promises to be a fascinating event with the participation of renowned experts and personalities in various fields. John Maeda and Nuria Oliver, recognized experts in Artificial Intelligence, along with computer engineer Ikhlaq Sidhu, will share their knowledge on the intersection between technology and art, as well as the implications of AI in our society. On the other hand, naturalist and BBC presenter David Lindo, paleoclimatologist Valérie Trouet, and ecologist Vincent Doumeizel will share their wisdom about nature in an enriching conversation moderated by sustainability expert Isabela del Alcázar. Additionally, architects Ben van Berkel, one of the winners of the contest for the urban integration of the Chamartín station in Madrid, and Adriaan Geuze will explore the relationship between nature and architecture.
The festival will also feature the participation of renowned writers such as Andrea Marcolongo, Marta Robles, Carlos Zanón, Ray Loriga, Javier Cercas, and storyteller Fernando Trueba, who will enrich the event with their talent and unique perspectives. The presence of Robert Hardman, recognized author, analyst, and filmmaker specializing in royalty, will be highlighted as he offers a reflection on the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and its cultural impact. Additionally, literary figures such as Luz Gabás, Mercedes Ron, Giuliano da Empoli, Ukrainian writer Yuri Andrujovich, and his compatriot, the recipient of the Médicis Étranger award, Andréi Kurkov, will join the list of participants.
A Stroll through the Metaverse
The Immersive Learning department and the Arts and Humanities Division of IE University have organized a series of immersive experiences and master classes that will delve guests in virtual reality and its application in education. Accompanied by renowned Harvard professor Goretti Fernández, attendees will be able to explore the metaverse and visit the IE Virtual Gallery, where the captivating photographs that won the IE Foundation Humanities Prize 2022 are exhibited.
