OVERVIEW

This new purpose program has been carefully designed to help you rethink your organization’s commitment to both the environment and society as a whole. Enhance your business acumen, develop your soft skills and drive innovation while creating a better future for your business and the world.

The Sustainability: Your competitive advantage program allows participants to create new opportunities for their businesses through environmental, social and governance (ESG) frameworks. They will study specific cases that demonstrate how companies can do well by doing good; learn and apply the frameworks to their own organizations and measure the impact; and explore the new type of leadership and governance required to drive these changes.

The program is furthermore a hands-on learning experience where participants will engage with other business leaders, top faculty, and renowned panelists in applied debate and workshops.

"I discovered the program through a scholarship offered by the Rotary Clubs of The Bahamas. As a climate change practitioner and advocate, I am aware of the increasing call of international, regional, and national bodies regarding a “whole community” approach to sustainability. This approach recognizes that sustainability is everyone’s business. This fundamental purview of sustainability ignited my interest in applying to the program at IE University. As a citizen of a vulnerable, developing country, this inclusive approach is paramount for climate change adaptation.

My experience at IE was amazing. The program covered a range of topics (i.e., Climate Adaptation, Circular Economy, Non-Market Failures, and Value Creation) to be considered by businesses to foster a sustainable agenda. Further to this, the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Framework was heavily discussed to reinforce the basis and core of sustainability. The curriculum, coupled with the faculty’s professional and academic experience, provided a rich, nuanced and balanced environment. As a professional in the sustainability realm, I would recommend this program to other professionals or executives looking to hone, refine and enhance their organization’s approach to sustainability. The knowledge obtained will likely be used and added to the climate change presentations I conduct across the length and breadth of The Bahamas.

Of all professors, Concepcion Galdon had the most significant impact on me. Conchita’s vast knowledge of economics and sustainability created a conducive learning environment. Her initial presentation set the tone for the program. The “Jam Sessions” she hosted allowed participants to reflect and internally digest the material learned throughout the program. As a result of her passion, I am now interested in pursuing graduate-level education in economics after completing my doctoral degree next year."
