About me

I was born and raised in Madrid, Spain. I studied to be an architect, but as soon as I stepped foot into the professional world, I started working as a workplace interior designer in an advisory real estate company. Part of JLL Group, Tétris, where I currently work, is a leading design and build company focused on creating aesthetically appealing environments.

"Through this experience I’m able to learn twice: first from my colleagues, and then from my professors."

Roberto Huerta

After training as an architect, Roberto began to work in workplace strategy with JLL’s design and build company, Tétris. Given his focus on architecture, and with hopes to move towards project management, he felt it was time to expand his knowledge.

Roberto began researching programs, and IE University’s Global Master in Real Estate Development was the perfect match. To Roberto, the program’s 360-degree industry viewpoint combined with the chance to gain knowledge of the financial and sustainability aspects of architecture made his selection simple. Plus, the fluid learning approach offered by the university’s unique blended format has allowed Roberto to transfer his newly acquired knowledge to his professional role in real time.

Another important strong point for Roberto was the program’s international nature. The master’s incorporates an international mindset at every level—from professors with backgrounds and reputations that span the world to students from every corner of the globe. This makes each and every class discussion extra interesting and also opens up global networking opportunities.

“The face-to-face sessions are crucial to getting to know your peers.”

Beyond these sites for international exchange, face-to-face sessions in Madrid, Mexico City and London also form an integral component of the program that aims to expose students to multiple, highly diverse real estate contexts. For his part, Roberto has been surprised and delighted with the variety and contrasts of Mexico City, noting that it’s possible to pass a skyscraper and a family-owned business all in one block. More than just the experience in a new city, the in-person interactions with his peers have proven to be both a crucial bonding and networking opportunity.

For Roberto, who is amongst the younger members of his cohort, completing this program is a means of twofold learning—firstly from his peers and secondly from his professors. When asked to describe the program in just one word, Roberto would go back to his general idea of “360-degree vision.” He finds this to be the key to his future success, especially as the learning is holistic and rounded, covering everything from sustainability to financials to design.

As for his future, the next step will be harder for Roberto than his decision to join IE University and the Global Master in Real Estate Development. He loves every aspect of the industry and all of the available options, so choosing just one job will be a challenge!
