About me

I’m Ana. I’m originally from Brazil, but I’ve lived in Mexico for the past five years. What sparked my initial interest in the humanities was its deep dive into philosophy and human behavior. That’s why I chose the Bachelor in Humanities. The internationality of IE University’s student body was what first caught my eye, and after doing some research, I also loved just how historic the location is.

Also, the experience of living in two different cities, Segovia and Madrid, was a big draw. I wanted to pursue my passion and take in all the university had to offer, and the Bachelor in Humanities was just right for me.

Q&A with Ana Luiza de Oliveira Moya

What’s the atmosphere like in an IE University humanities classroom?

The Bachelor in Humanities offers such a light atmosphere, unlike any academic setting you’ve been in before. Here, all the students get along and help each other. This spirit of community and collaboration helps you feel comfortable fast.

Which course changed the way you see the world and why?

The Global History course completely changed my perspective on the world, not only because of the teacher, who had so much knowledge, but also the course content itself. We were able to learn so much about our collective past and how historic events continue to shape the present and future.

Has a professor significantly influenced your academic journey so far?

My Introduction to Digital Humanities teacher has been a game-changer. During one of our meetings for the development of my final project, the professor showed me how a project that you might think is only for class could have broader implications and help people in the wider community, or even society as a whole.

People often wonder about the utility of the humanities. How does this program bridge the gap between theory and professional practice?

The program covers everything from human behavior to technology, history and more. In combination, these elements engage students to participate and think outside the box and contemplate new perspectives they might not have considered before.

How have you engaged with the IE Community outside the classroom?

So far, I’ve enrolled in the marketing labs, which put students in direct contact with clients through real-world projects. I also hope to gain more knowledge, experience and networking opportunities in the process.

Which skill have you developed during the program that will be essential for your future career?

The Global History class really helped develop my writing skills. I feel like I can write faster and more effectively, which will be invaluable when I need to prepare formal papers.

What advice would you give your younger self about the IE Experience?

I’d tell myself not to leave any experiences behind. Always trust yourself and engage fully in any opportunities that come your way. Lastly, do your best, and you’ll see how far you reach.

Where do you see your humanities mindset taking you after graduation?

My biggest hope is to make an impact on the business world, ensuring human behavior and needs are taken into consideration alongside the bottom line. By using my skills and unique perspective, I hope to influence how business decisions are made.
