IE offers world’s first academic program in metaverse and gaming with latest technologies.

IE’s School of Science and Technology unveiled its new Metaverse and Gaming Experience Specialization, the world’s first academic program for students in the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The program seeks to prepare IE students with the skills and understanding to lead the workforce in the emerging field. A 2022 Citi Group report estimated the total Metaverse market could reach $13 trillion by 2030, with some 5 billion users.

“We are excited to be the first to launch an academic program that values the combined potential of metaverse and game-style interface development skills and will train our students so they can lead this massive technology evolution,” said Ikhlaq Sidhu, Dean of IE School of Science and Technology and director of the Metaverse Center.

“We expect to prepare our students to pioneer the metaverse and capitalize on this emerging frontier.”

This specialization - available to all IE students and the IE community starting Spring 2023 - will include courses and projects in metaverse, gaming, Web 3, Blockchain, cryptocurrencies, NFTs, artificial Intelligence and virtual and augmented reality among others. The school will train students using the latest technology and provide a variety of study programs that will take place in the metaverse.

Students will be encouraged to develop metaverse projects and ventures within IE’s recently created Metaverse Center.
