Dive into the bustling Spanish capital

Study in Madrid: Two campuses in the Spanish capital

Madrid has been home to IE University since 1973. Today, that presence spans two locations built for different stages of the journey: the IE Tower, a 180-meter vertical campus in the financial district where undergraduates study, and María de Molina, an urban campus in the city's business corridor where master's students complete their programs.

Each campus matches the stage it serves. Both put students within walking distance of the companies, institutions and people that make Madrid one of Europe's most active business capitals.

Why Madrid matters for your degree

Madrid is one of Europe's most active financial centers, headquarters city for most of Spain's listed companies, and a fast-growing base for international startups and venture capital. At IE University, the city is part of the program. Coursework, internships, networking and daily life overlap from week one, because the place where you study shapes what you're able to do while you study.

For students, that means:

  • A group of people walking on a sidewalk in a modern urban area with skyscrapers in the background.

    Proximity to industry

Both campuses sit inside or alongside Madrid's main business districts. Companies, embassies, law firms, consultancies and startups are a walk from class, not a flight away.

  • A lively outdoor gathering of friends enjoying coffee and conversation at a cafe in a vibrant city square.

An international cohort, in an international city

IE University students come from more than 160 countries, and Madrid is one of Europe's most international capitals. The city around you reflects the classroom inside.

  • A busy street scene with people walking, enjoying outdoor seating, and public transportation in the background.

    A livable scale

Madrid is large enough to anchor a career and small enough to cross in 30 minutes. Public transport is fast and inexpensive, the cost of living sits below London, Paris or Amsterdam, and the city stays open year-round.

IE TOWER: A VERTICAL CAMPUS FOR VISIONARIES

The IE Tower is the fifth-tallest building in Madrid and the seventh-tallest in Spain. Designed by architect Fernando Serrano-Suñer de Hoyos, it opened in 2021 as the home of IE University's undergraduate community, one of the largest single-site, purpose-built university campuses in Europe and the first conceived as a tower.

Its location matters as much as its height. Sitting inside the city's financial district, close to leading international companies, the Tower puts students in daily proximity to the same industries they're training to enter, with auditoriums, sports facilities and green space built alongside the classrooms.

H.M. King Felipe VI of Spain inaugurated the building in October 2021, a recognition of what the project represents for higher education in the country.

A LEED Gold building, built to keep up

Sustainability shaped the Tower from the brief stage. The building holds LEED Gold certification, but the more telling decisions are the ones that never show up in a logo.

The Tower sits inside one of Europe's most active financial districts, beside the Cuatro Torres complex and minutes from major Spanish and multinational headquarters. That proximity gets used. Companies host sessions in the Tower, students run client projects with local firms, and recruiters visit campus throughout the year.

The building also opens onto the city itself: museums, food, music, sport and the everyday life that makes Madrid one of the best-rated student cities in Europe.

 María de Molina campus

The image shows modern buildings with large glass facades and the letters 'ie' prominently displayed.

María de Molina is IE University's home for master's students in Madrid. It sits in the city's central business corridor, on the street that gives the campus its name, surrounded by company headquarters, consultancies and law firms. That professional density matters when your program lasts one year and includes consulting projects, recruiting and internships.

A master's at IE University is intensive by design, and the campus reflects it: a compact, dedicated environment built around classes, project rooms, faculty offices and career services, running on the rhythm of an executive-style schedule. Master's students have the space to themselves rather than sharing it with much larger undergraduate cohorts.

Built for graduate-level work

  • A group of people collaborating in a modern workspace with laptops.

    Dedicated graduate facilities

Classrooms, project rooms and faculty offices configured for case-based teaching, smaller cohorts and team-based work. Master's students can also reach the IE Tower's labs and events via Madrid's transport network.

  • Two women are walking and smiling while engaging in conversation in a modern office setting.

    A short walk to industry

The surrounding neighborhood is among the densest in Spain for corporate headquarters and professional services, which pays off in client projects, on-site visits and recruiting.

  • Two people are sitting on a couch, engaged in a conversation while using their laptops.

    Career services on campus

Talent & Careers staff work alongside the academic teams, and employers visit throughout the year for recruiting sessions, panels and one-on-one meetings with students.

  • Three students are engaged in a discussion around a table in a study area.

    A graduate community

The campus concentrates master's students from every school at IE University, so the people around you are at the same stage of their careers, facing the same decisions, opening doors for each other along the way.

Master's students who need the IE Tower's specialized labs or events can use both campuses as one ecosystem, connected by Madrid's transport network.

Life in Madrid

Madrid earns its rating as one of Europe's best student cities: affordable by Western European standards, culturally dense, easy to navigate and open seven days a week.

Public museums like the Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen, independent galleries, food markets, parks, football and 12 bank holidays a year make the city around your studies part of the education.

For the practical side of moving here, housing, daily costs, neighborhoods and student services, we've built a dedicated resource.
