IE Foundation and Fundación Recal Join Forces to Drive Awareness and Education on Addiction-Related Mental Health Challenges

This new collaboration supports IE University’s commitment to holistic well-being and social impact through education.

IE Foundation and Fundación Recal have signed a collaboration agreement to promote mental health awareness, education, and support within the IE Community, with a particular focus on understanding and preventing addiction-related behavioral disorders. This alliance strengthens IE’s ongoing commitment to fostering well-being, resilience, and social responsibility across its academic ecosystem.

The agreement was formalized on April 30th by Diego del Alcázar Silvela, Founder of IE University and President of IE Foundation, and Maximiliano de Habsburgo, Archduke of Austria and founder of Fundación Recal. Through this collaboration, both institutions aim to engage the IE Community in educational initiatives related to addiction and mental health, with the goal of supporting the comprehensive personal and professional development of all its members.

As part of the agreement, Fundación Recal will contribute to a series of initiatives designed to enrich IE’s complementary education programs. These include specialized events and awareness initiatives that will foster dialogue and provide practical tools for understanding and navigating the challenges associated with addiction. Experts from Fundación Recal will also participate in conferences and seminars focused on mental health and well-being.

This partnership further reinforces IE Foundation’s dedication to advancing IE’s holistic well-being strategy, developed in close collaboration with the IE Center for Health & Well-being. The Center, supported by IE Foundation, focuses on cultivating the human skills essential for thriving in life and work, and on building a values-driven community that prioritizes purpose and positive impact.

“Supporting mental health and equipping future leaders with the tools to sustain well-being is essential to building a more resilient and human-centered future,” said Gonzalo Garland, Executive Vice President of IE Foundation. “This collaboration with Fundación Recal is deeply aligned with our mission to develop conscious leaders who create positive change.”

“Recal’s mission is twofold. Firstly, to raise awareness of the risks associated with mood-altering substances and other compulsive behaviours that lead to addiction, in order to inform and promote prevention. Secondly, to clearly show that there is a solution for anybody who seeks to break free from the grips of addiction and to signpost the way out,” explains Maximiliano de Habsburgo, Archduke of Austria and founder of Fundación Recal.
