AI-Powered Healthcare
Program content
Program content
This program is part of IE´s AI Week, a series of programs around AI applied to different functions.
Over 3 days, you’ll take part in interactive sessions that show you how to understand, use, and lead generative AI in AI-Powered Healthcare.
The program provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to use and implement generative AI in healthcare, applying it across clinical practice, management, and organizational efficiency. Participants will learn to design and deploy specific tools, assess their suitability in different contexts, and stay ahead of this rapidly evolving technology. The program also offers insight into pioneering generative AI projects in the healthcare sector.

Module 1: Foundations for AI-Driven Transformation (shared sessions for All IE's AI Week Programs)
This section aims to equip managers with a cross-functional, strategic, and ethical lens to engage with AI at scale in their domains.
Module 2: UNDERSTANDING GENERATIVE AI IN HEALTHCARE
What It Is, How It Works, and Why It Matters
This module helps participants build a clear and practical understanding of generative AI. You’ll learn what makes this technology different, what it can do in healthcare settings, and how to stay updated as the field evolves. We’ll explore various tools, what they’re best used for, and what to watch out for regarding risks and limitations.
Example applications:
- AI tools that help draft medical reports
- Chatbots that support patients with medication reminders
- Systems that summarize medical literature
Module 3: USING GENERATIVE AI TOOLS EFFECTIVELY
Hands-On Practice with Chatbots and Smart Assistants
This module introduces the most common way people interact with generative AI—through chat-based tools like ChatGPT. You’ll learn how to “ask better questions” (prompt design), guide the AI’s responses, and evaluate what the tool produces. We’ll also explore some of the most valuable platforms and help you understand when and how to use them in your daily work.
Example applications:
- Creating first drafts of discharge letters or patient instructions
- Asking an AI assistant to summarize complex cases
- Preparing materials for team meetings or patient education
Module 4: BUILDING YOUR OWN AI ASSISTANTS
Customizing AI Tools for Real Healthcare Tasks
This module shows you how to go one step further by tailoring generative AI tools to your needs. You’ll learn how to create simple assistants to support your work without needing to write code. These assistants can help automate routine tasks, answer frequently asked questions, or guide users through standard procedures.
Example applications:
- A virtual assistant for new patient intake
- A tool to help staff follow clinical guidelines
- A bot that supports administrative work like appointment reminders
Module 5: ADVANCED FEATURES TO BOOST PRODUCTIVITY
Smarter Workflows and Time-Saving Automations
Once you’re comfortable using AI tools, this module helps you explore their more advanced features. You’ll see how they can be part of larger workflows—for example, generating a summary, creating a report, and scheduling a task simultaneously. You’ll also learn how to connect different tools and automate repetitive tasks.
Example applications:
- AI tools that prepare clinical updates from different data sources
- Scheduling assistants that send follow-ups to patients automatically
- Smart assistants that help gather background info for research or grant writing
Module 6: WORKING WITH OPEN AND PRIVATE AI TOOLS
How to Choose the Right Setup for Your Needs
This module explains the differences between AI tools that run in the cloud (online) and those that can be used locally (on your device or server). You’ll learn the benefits and trade-offs of each, including privacy, cost, and speed. We’ll also introduce easy ways to build simple AI-powered tools, even if you don’t have a technical background.
Example applications:
- Using local AI tools to analyze internal reports securely
- Comparing open tools with commercial platforms
- Choosing the right setup for a small clinic or research team
Module 7: CLOSING ROUNDTABLE: WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
Insights, Inspiration, and Real-World Examples
We will wrap up the program with a discussion led by experts already using generative AI in healthcare. You’ll hear what’s working and challenging and how they’ve approached implementation. There will also be time for debate, reflection, and networking, with opportunities to discuss your ideas or next steps.
Highlights:
- Case studies from hospitals, insurers, and innovators
- Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
- Peer sharing and collaboration opportunities
