About me

I’m a data scientist consultant originally from Mexico with a background in Actuarial Science. For most of my career, I’ve been part of SAS, where I’ve collaborated with international banks such as HSBC, Bank of America, BBVA, and Citi, developing fraud detection models and predictive analytics solutions that combine data, innovation, and strategy to make financial systems safer and more efficient. Before joining SAS, I worked with pension funds and insurance companies, focusing on portfolio optimization and risk management.

In an industry that’s constantly evolving, I’ve learned the importance of staying adaptable. Always seeking ways to apply new technologies, optimize processes, and generate meaningful impact. What inspires me the most is exploring how analytics and AI can help build a more human, transparent, and sustainable financial future.

Define your experience in MBD in one word.

Empower.

Why did you choose to study this program at IE?

I had three main reasons for choosing IE. First, it’s a globally recognized institution with one of the top-ranked Master’s programs in Business Analytics. Second, I was interested on how the program combines technical elements with a business mindset. And third, I appreciated the flexibility it offers to keep working while studying.

What has been your favorite memory of your experience?

Every face-to-face period was memorable. And I would even say each one got better and better, as we knew each other more deeply. IE did a fantastic job balancing academic sessions with fun and cultural activities around the city, such as cooking or playing laser tags. Those moments helped us connect beyond the classroom and created lasting friendships.

What were some of the main challenges you encountered on your way? How did your master’s program and IE help you through these challenges?

One of the most challenging moments came toward the end of the program, when I became dad. Balancing work, studies, and a newborn was incredibly demanding, and there were times when I genuinely wasn’t sure I would be able to manage it all. That’s when I truly felt the support of IE faculty and staff contacting some professors to offer flexibility with deadlines so I could stay on track.

How did you manage to balance your academic workload with your professional responsibilities?

It was quite challenging and not as straightforward as you might think. It took me a couple of months to figure out the right balance. The key to success is teamwork. That means many things, such as understanding each team member’s strengths and weaknesses. When everyone focuses on what they do best, you save time and can share knowledge with the rest of the team afterward. Being part of such a diverse program also meant working across different time zones, which sometimes made scheduling meetings complicated. However, when the work is well distributed, projects can practically run 24/7!

And finally, when everyone commits to giving their best effort on each project, the overall workload is lighter for everyone.

What is networking like in MBDSPT?

Is terrific! Networking is one of the strongest aspects of the program. From the beginning, you’re surrounded by talented professionals from different industries and countries, which leads to incredible exchanges of ideas and perspectives. IE also organizes events and activities that encourage meaningful connections and not just academic, but personal and professional as well.

How did IE support you in finding a job after completing the program?

I’m still working at SAS, but IE has continued to support my professional growth in multiple ways. I regularly receive updates and opportunities through the Career Portal, and I’ve been invited to events like Career Day Mexico.

How applicable were the skills you learned in the program to your current role or industry?

Extremely applicable. The program’s content helped me strengthen my technical knowledge in data architecture and machine learning, while giving me a broader understanding of how to align data solutions with business objectives. Since AI and data industry is evolving very quickly, staying up to date with the latest tools for data processing provides a strong competitive advantage.

In what ways do you think the program has changed your life professionally and personally?

I got really inspired by many of my professors, classmates, and topics I barely knew before joining the program. It opened my mind to new ways of thinking and showed me the key elements I should focus on. Especially in a field where tools update so quickly. I realized it’s not just about mastering every new platform or technology, but about understanding the purpose behind them and how they can truly create value.

Working alongside professors with extensive real-world experience and classmates from diverse backgrounds made the learning process even more meaningful. Each project felt like a real collaboration. Those interactions taught me the importance of teamwork, humility, and curiosity. Qualities that I now carry into every professional challenge.
