HONORS

BETA GAMMA SIGMA

IE Business School gives you the opportunity to join Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), an international business honor society recognizing the outstanding academic achievements of students enrolled in collegiate business and management programs accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

The organization is rooted in the founding principles of honor, integrity and the pursuit of wisdom, and supports the advancement of business thought and practice to encourage lifelong learning among its 700,000 plus members that currently reside in more than 160 countries worldwide.

Background Information

BGS was originally founded as a national organization in 1913. The first national honor society in business was a merger of three separate societies established to honor academic achievement in business at the University of Wisconsin, University of Illinois and the University of California.

At present, more than 300 universities are members of this prestigious organization. In December 2003, IE Business School became the first Collegiate Chapter of BGS in Europe.

Eligibility

Only the top 20% of each program and intake will receive an invitation to Beta Gamma Sigma. In the MIF, the ranking is based on the  accumulated ranking of  periods one and two of the program.

In order to be officially invited, IE Business School will transfer some basic information to BGS (full name, intake and email address), which implies an international transfer of said data. If you are not interested in becoming a member of BGS please email Cristina Elena before the end of the second period. If we do not receive notice and you are ranked in the said top 20% we will send the information in order to continue the process.

Students who accept membership to BGS will have to pay an administrative entrance fee of 75€. Going forward, there are no annual dues or fees associated with membership in BGS.

DEAN’S LIST

In recognition of academic excellence, selected students at IE are named to the Dean’s List at the end of each academic year.

Eligibility

Eligibility is based on academic achievement only and applies to the top 10% performers of the program intake based on the overall (global) ranking of cumulative GPAs.

Notation on a student’s record

While there is no notation of this academic achievement on the students’ transcripts, Dean’s Listers are awarded with a Certificate of Excellence signed by the Dean of IE Business School, and we encourage students to make mention thereof on their CVs as well.

Benefits

Being on the Dean’s List not only increases one’s sense of personal achievement but also gives students a competitive advantage over their peers. Additionally, this puts them on the radar among IE students, faculty and staff, which ultimately provides them with increased networking opportunities and personal referrals, and overall prestige and recognition.

Exceptions

Breach or non-compliance with the IE Code of Ethical Conduct will result in a detailed case-by-case review before a final decision is reached and may impact Dean’s List eligibility.

THE BLUE TORCH

The Blue Torch is an esteemed distinction that proudly recognizes the students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance and/or outstanding citizenship within the IE Business School community.  The recipients of the Blue Torch will be selected considering the following criteria:

Outstanding citizenship: we look for students who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the success and well-being of their peers and to the overall positive experience of others in their program. This recognition is only bestowed by peers through a nomination process within each program section that includes four behavioral categories:

  • Academic support given to classmates.
  • Fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment
  • Supporting and encouraging others
  • Promoting an enjoyable atmosphere that makes IE more fun

Academic performance: students whose cumulative GPA from the first two terms places them amongst the top 10% of their program intake.

To obtain the recognition, recipients need to meet one or both criteria.

Receiving the Blue Torch allows you to showcase your exceptional commitment to academic excellence and making a positive impact within our community. The awarded students are invited to a closed doors induction ceremony and networking cocktail with fellow recipients, academic leadership, faculty, and staff.

Associated dates:

  • Outstanding citizenship nominations per section: April 2026
  • Announcement: week before the event through a calendar invite
  • Blue Torch Ceremony: May 2026
