INTERNSHIPS

Voluntary Internship Program in Companies

MIF students have the opportunity to benefit from:

Internships are voluntary, chosen by the student and must be related to the student’s academic areas of interest.

The internship is not considered an employment contract with the Company, but rather a ‘training fellowship’, which is carried out by means of an agreement between the company and the student. However, it should be noted that this training period is an opportunity for the company to assess potential candidates for eventual recruitment.

Some companies, both in Spain and in foreign countries, require a Collaboration Agreement with an academic institution to hire interns. Whether or not the specific agreement is signed depends on each company’s internal policy, local pertinent legislation, etc. However, non-community students do require the involvement of IE in the signing of agreements in order to work as interns in Spain.

Internships may be performed in companies in any country. If internships are carried out abroad, it is very important that students find out about the required immigration procedures for the internship in advance. They must contact the consulate in the country of destination since IE is not the competent authority in these matters. Each student will be responsible for the processing of his/her visa application and for satisfying the necessary requirements according to the regulations of each country. It is important to emphasize that the Spanish student permit (NIE) which non-European community students possess, is NOT a valid document for undertaking an internship in other countries.

The student is responsible for finding an internship. If IE has information about possible internships available, this information will be communicated to students by the Careers Department.

The Careers Department maintains collaboration agreements with a number of companies and organisms in diverse areas, so that students may complete their training in the working world. In this respect, early termination of an internship on the part of a student must be done by presenting a written justification, addressed to the MIF Associate Director: Cristina Elena

Can Dual Degree students do an internship?
