Living in Segovia

Living in Segovia

Living and studying in Segovia is an unforgettable experience, sure to delight lovers of history, culture, and architecture.

As you walk through winding alleyways, you’ll pass medieval bars, gothic cathedrals, Disney-esque castles on hilltops…and that’s before you reach the midtown Roman aqueduct, the city’s striking signature monument. There’s no better way to fully immerse yourself in the Spanish experience than by studying in Segovia, registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1985.

There are several types of accommodation available in Segovia. From student residences to private and shared flats, and homestay with local families. We recommend that you start looking for accommodation as soon as possible to make sure that you are able to choose the option that is best for you!

Our campus is walking distance from almost anywhere in Segovia, so it is up to each student to decide what area suits them best according to their needs.

Student Residences

Beyond campus

Beyond Campus is an exclusive platform, made by IE students, for IE students. A team of IE MBA Alumni, who successfully identified a real need to find good, reliable, and safe accommodation for the growing IE community, founded this useful accommodation platform.

Not only do they have the best-curated apartments and residences near the city center and the new campus, but they also strive to improve the experience offering contracts in English, 24/7 service, and quality control of apartments, amongst other benefits!

Choose your student residence

Choosing a student residence will keep you from taking care of time-consuming logistical issues, such as utility bills and internet contracts, allowing you to focus on the important things! Many of these residences will give you the option to sign up for additional services, such as food and laundry.

On top of it all, they are one of the best places to make friends and get to know Segovia!

Below, you will find a list of residences included in the Beyond Campus platform. If you are interested in booking this option, we recommend you do so as soon as possible, as they have limited availability and they can fill up quickly. 1. Renting an apartment

You will find a variety of apartments at Beyond Campus. The team visits every apartment and selects the best ones to make sure they fit with your standards when you book them on the website. They also make sure prices fairly fit real estate’s market price so you are not over listed or scammed.

There are also other options if you choose not to use Beyond Campus to look for an apartment. However, before renting a flat in Segovia, there are several things to keep in mind. The most important factor, which directly influence the amount you spend on rent, is whether you decide to share an apartment.

Living alone is usually more expensive. If you do not know anyone with whom to share a flat, but would like to find accommodation with another IEU student, you can access your Slack account and look for the “roomates-wanted“ group (kindly note the Slack account is only available for enrolled students). This group was created to help you find flat mates among the IEU Community

Another way to find a flat in Spain is by looking into the most popular housing search websites. Click on the links below to find out more:

* In order to avoid frauds when looking for a flat, we always recommend visiting it in person before signing a contract or making any payment.

FAQ's of Living in Segovia

More information below

Though prices for renting an apartment in Segovia vary depending on several factors, including the student’s personal taste and needs, you can expect to pay anywhere between 500€ and 900€ a month for a one - or two - bedroom apartment. If you plan to share your flat with other students, expect to pay between 400€ and 600€ per month

How long does the renting contract last?

More information below

Rental contracts usually last one year, although you can sometimes negotiate with the property owner to rent for a shorter period (please keep in mind that this might increase the price). Landlords will usually ask for a security deposit that can be the equivalent of 1 to 3 months of rent, but you can negotiate the terms with them personally.

In addition, it is important you always request a receipt of payment, as well as a contract agreed and signed by both parties.

What are the utilities?

More information below

Please note that additional expenses such as electricity, water, gas, wi-fi, etc., are usually NOT included in the cost of rent, although sometimes they are. Make sure you know which utilities are or are not included in the price before signing the contract.

If you are a landlord, you can register your flat through Beyond Campus, IE’s new accommodation platform for students.

If you would rather live in a family environment, where you can practice your Spanish and enjoy delicious home cooked meals, then a homestay with a host family is the perfect option for you!

IE has an agreement with the company InnFamily, which pairs host families with university students. IE students receive a 30% discount on the booking fee.

InnFamily is a company specialized in providing host family accommodation for students who are planning temporary exchange programs in Spanish universities and colleges.
