Executives from top global hotel brands connect with students to discuss trends, challenges, and career opportunities in one of world’s fastest-growing sectors.

Talent & Careers held Hospitality Day at the María de Molina Campus, bringing together executives and recruiters from leading hospitality and tourism companies to share their expertise with students eager to pursue careers in the field.

As one of the world’s fastest-growing sectors–accounting for approximately 13% of Spain’s GDP and serving as a pillar of the European economy–the hospitality industry offers vast professional opportunities.

"This was the second edition of the Hospitality Day at IE University," said Alex Luzer, Senior Associate Director of Talents & Careers. "While IE is not a traditional hotelier school, we find that the sector's international viewpoint and diverse opportunities resonate more and more with our students."

Attendees gained valuable insights from panelists representing top organizations, including Four Seasons, Hilton, Marriott International, Raddison Hotel Group, and Rosewood Hotels & Resorts.

The business panel explored key market trends, as well as the challenges and opportunities currently shaping the sector. Among the most pressing topics discussed was the impact of the internet and digitalization on guest expectations.

"It is harder and harder to surprise guests when they have access to the internet" Said Nacho de la Fuente, General Manager at Hotel Montera. "The challenge is the need to reinvent yourself every day."

David Munoz Alcazar–University Relations & Talent Acquisition Programs Manager at Marriott International EMEA–who transitioned into hospitality after graduating from medical school, emphasised the importance of adaptability and honing transferable skills.

"Your career is like a passport, where each skill is a stamp earned through experiences that add value to a team," said Munoz. "Everything is evolving so quickly that one of the greatest opportunities for hotels lies in building a holistic approach to developing and attracting talent."

The event concluded with an HR presentation and networking session, during which students learnt about current career opportunities and received practical advice on how to break into the hospitality sector.

The industry was referred to as one of the happiest in the world, meaning more than temporary accommodation to guests, but a field that helps create life-long memories.

"Don’t miss the opportunity," said Angela Picarelle, Rosewood Villa Magna Talent Acquisition Executive. "This industry is amazing."
