The Master of Laws (LL.M.) Launch Week is a week-long event packed with seminars, workshops and activities to help students become oriented with the program.
The Master of Laws (LL.M.) is a transformational program that ensures students grow professionally in their legal studies. Gaining a solid foundation of basic law, there are several specializations students can choose from International Business Law, International Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property and Technology Law, and International Taxation.
The master’s program follows a hands-on approach to teaching and learning, which includes seminars, moot court competitions and legal challenges. Classes are taught by experts who are current practitioners, but there are also guest speakers that provide inspirational words to students.
Before students dive into their rigorous academic schedules, they are given the opportunity to participate in Launch Week—a week-long event designed to help them kick off the program strong.
What is Launch Week?
Launch Week is a week-long tableau of sessions designed to help Master of Laws (LL.M.) students hit the ground running. Workshops like Design Thinking, Diversity, Case Method and Emotional Intelligence are just some of the seminars created to provide a solid foundation to what the year will bring them.
The workshops guide students to reach their potential, giving them tools to approach the upcoming academic year with the right mindset.
As Andrew Gonzales, program manager at IE Law School explains, “This also helps build relationships between the students to make those lasting relationships that they’ll use beyond IE Law School after the program finishes.” Not only does this launch week prepare students academically, but IE Law School’s goal is to ensure students have the opportunity to network and enhance their personal connections.
The tools and skills to succeed
The Master of Laws (LL.M.) Launch Week provides tools and skills for future lawyers to succeed in their careers. “My workshop is about the case study method, where they develop skills they will need at work,” Gamaliel Martinez Muñoz, professor of Case Method at IE Law School, said.
Students develop data analysis and communication skills, which will have a profound effect when they immerse themselves in their legal careers.
Launch Week also ensures that students have the right mindset in their personal lives before they start the program. “We wanted to take these key concepts around balance, appreciation and perspective, and at the same time take knowledge to put practices into place to help them in terms of their learning journey and their own flourishing through well-being,” said Lisa Bevill, academic director of IE Center for Health, Well-Being & Happiness. It’s important for students to be aware of their mental health throughout their studies, and these sessions help them develop the skills to create a sense of mindfulness.
The main goal behind Launch Week is to ensure students have the foundational tools and skills necessary to build successful careers in the legal world.
“I expect to learn a lot, but also to learn what I really want to specialize in. I think it’s M&A, but I’m open to everything. I’m hoping to have a more clear vision of what I really want to do in my future career,” said Hannah de Schrijver, a student from the Master of Laws (LL.M.).
Students like Hannah will walk away from Launch Week more confident in their specializations and in their ability to tackle challenges their program will bring. A mix of emotions take place when starting something new, but with Launch Week, students will enter the Master of Laws (LL.M.) equipped with the skills for success.
