Masa Marin, a Master in Architecture student from Slovenia, is emerging as a pioneer in innovation. With a strong focus on circular living principles, Masa’s final project offers a fresh perspective on some of today’s challenges. Her project focuses on the intricacies of social cohesion in the Netherlands, where a staggering 50% of residents don’t feel a sense of community with each other.

Guided by a vision of inclusivity and belonging, Masa’s project aims to enrich urban environments, “infusing” them with elements and features that encourage community engagement. Coming into the project with no idea what it entailed beforehand, she admits that choosing a theme was difficult. Despite this uncertainty, Amsterdam served as inspiration and a catalyst for new insights into circular living methodologies.

As she immersed herself in the vibrant city’s culture, Masa discovered some similarities between Amsterdam’s circularity and her own academic pursuits. It was particularly interesting for her to experience firsthand life in a city that reflected what she and her classmates are studying.

“I think the experience is really good because we are connecting more between each other.”

At IE University, Masa has found herself in a highly international cohort driven by a shared passion for architecture. Despite her class numbering only 18 people, they come from different corners of the globe. Their different worldviews and immersive experiences like her project in Amsterdam have helped her discover new approaches to the discipline, and given her the skills she needed for architectural storytelling and competition.

Reflecting on her academic journey, Masa acknowledges the challenges she has encountered along the way. She realizes they are essential for personal development and enriching her educational experience. At IE University, she found a community that nurtures innovation and celebrates diversity.

In Masa’s opinion, IE University is more than an academic institution, but also an opportunity for personal and societal development. For prospective Master in Architecture students, Masa’s experience is an example of the university’s commitment to excellence and inclusivity.
