In 2010, Professor Cruz was awarded the Research Excellence Award in recognition of her research at IE Business School.

According to Cristina, “the big challenge does not reside in preparing successors, but in preparing the next generation of family entrepreneurs.” In her classroom, the study of family business encompasses entrepreneurship and venturing within the familial unit. The main focus is not helping family business survive, but creating responsible family members and innovative family managers.

Cristina brings her research to the classroom, where she works to promote IE’s spirit of enterprise by encouraging students to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions.  Her cutting-edge approach to the study of family businesses, and her overall passion for teaching has made Cristina a favorite among students at IE.

In 2013, the prestigious business school social website “Poets & Quants” included Cristina in the “40 Best Business School Professors Under 40” list.

Cristina holds a doctorate in economics and quantitative methods from Carlos III University, an executive development degree in family business from IE Business School, a bachelor’s degree in international economics from Manchester University as well as a bachelor’s degree in economics from Murcia University.
