Change. It’s a concept that conjures a multitude of emotions and questions in all of us. For many, it carries feelings uncertainty and fear of the unknown. What would it look like, however, if you could learn to see change as an opportunity, rather than a complication? What if the unknown came to represent potential for something greater, rather than a problem? After all, change is inevitable. Why not use it to your advantage?

An expert in adapting to life’s many transformations, Howard Gordon is a prime example of someone who can skillfully recognize opportunities, and create great success from them. You’ve seen his work on several hit series, as co-creator of Homeland and Executive Producer for 24. Join us June 14th and 15th as this award-winning writer and producer shares advice on how to embrace and harness change for personal and professional growth.

Having worked on several popular television series, Gordon is no stranger to changes in his career. His willingness to try new things has opened many doors along his professional journey. For example, in the late 1990’s, Gordon seized an opportunity to co-write on a single episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This seemingly small role would later produce big results, when Buffy creator Joss Whedon sought out Gordon to work with him again on his next hit show, Angel.

In the coming years, Gordon would go on to change paths yet again, taking on a job as a writer for the critically acclaimed television series 24. In 2006, he became Executive Producer for the series, and in the same year won a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award for Best Drama.

His next project could have easily become a missed opportunity. During the last season of 24, when approached with the idea for Showtime’s Homeland. Though initially hesitant, Gordon once again embraced an opportunity for change and agreed to take on the challenge with co-creator Alex Gansa. The decision paid off in 2012 in the form of a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.
