WHAT ARE BOARD MEMBERS TALKING ABOUT?

This one-of-a-kind learning experience gives leaders the chance to gain foresight and fluency in the most relevant challenges that Boards of top organizations worldwide face.

With expert faculty and leading thinkers, this program will inspire you through workshops, lectures, insightful meetings with board members, as well as the chance to curate your own learning experience. You will not only be exposed to the latest thinking in key areas but will also have the unique opportunity to have a roundtable discussion with Board members of leading organizations (Microsoft, Inditex, Telefonica, etc.) to get their valuable insights.

And, of course, participants will have the chance to learn inside and outside of the classroom as the program includes non-class activities (being alone visiting a museum, cooking together, etc.) that will enrich the experience.

DAY 1 - Changing Perspectives

Geopolitics and its impact on the economy should drive many business strategies. It seems that the world has been in turmoil since the pandemic, however, history teaches us that our world is continuously in turmoil. All Boards are concerned with where the world is going and the implications on their particular strategy and business model.

The objective of today’s content is to give us context and perspective at a macro-level. We will analyze the geopolitical landscape at a global and regional scale and deep dive into some of the common themes. We will then evaluate where our economy might be moving towards and discuss the implications for organizations.

DAY 2 - Leading to Innovate

Yes, all business leaders they need to innovate. The big question is how. Once the strategic direction has been set, how do we innovate efficiently and flexibly? Boards around the world struggle to oversee the everchanging innovation ecosystems that affect their organizations.

The objective of today’s content is to inspire you and provide you with the frameworks and tools to be able to drive innovation in your organization. Learn to leverage game changing opportunities (tech, data, demographics, etc.) arising from the rapidly changing business landscape.

DAY 3 - Sustainability matters

Sustainability has become a household concept at all levels. From families who are learning to recycle to Boards who need to establish how their organization will incorporate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda.

The objective of today’s content is twofold: firstly, to understand why this is a must for any organization and, secondly, to improve your ability to make decisions in ways that deliver positive outcomes for business, communities, people, and our planet.

DAY 4 - Frontier Technologies

At the end of the day, most business leaders do two main things: lead business/digital transformation by leading people. All Boards are concerned with key issues around the ROI on technology, the rising importance of data as source of innovation, talent management, how to improve results by leveraging diversity better, etc.

The objective of today’s content is for you to be exposed to the latest thinking in these two fundamental core activities of all business leaders. In addition, you will be able to select the sessions we have prepared for you about People and Digital depending on your interests or needs.

DAY 5 - Presence

It is virtually impossible to be a great leader without knowing yourself and working to be better every day. All Boards (and Board members) know that all leadership teams have a huge challenge to be at their best performance every day. This is one of the reasons why the concept of wellbeing has become a key topic at Board meetings.

To end the program, we have chosen to focus on YOU as a leader. So, today’s content will focus on providing you with the science behind wellbeing, in particular around Resilience and Kindness. You will learn why they are important and how to improve your personal wellbeing.

"I participated in the IE Executive Summer edition of 22 and it was a great experience both on the professional and on the personal side. On the professional side I got inspired by the content and took lots of reflections to share back with the team and to apply on my job. I really felt that it opened my mind and revealed new challenges and opportunities I would take longer to address. It also gave me insights that provided me background to be able to run mean full conversations in different contexts. I also kept very interesting insights from speakers from the industry that IE brought to share their thoughts with us. Moreover, on the personal side, I was surprised by the multicultural environment where I had the chance to meet people from all over the globe, with different perspectives that enlarged my networking boundaries. For those who are thinking on starting such a journey I would suggest complementing the daily study activities with enjoying the vibrating context of Madrid and the after-class activities: the group dinner, the cocktail course and all the moments where very carefully to provide us with a great experience. Thank you IE!"

"Since my graduation from Executive MBA in 2016, I was following information about IE’s courses. I loved very much a quality of education IE provided and a spirit of integrity and diversity in the school. No wonder that IE forever became the first choice for me. As for an aspiration to learn, besides my natural curiosity, a concept of lifelong learning propagated by IE is what I firmly believe in. Before the Executive Summer School, I already had an experience in short Summer courses. In 2019 Julia Sanchez, the Head of Alumni Relations, recommended me the course “Hacking Exponential Growth”, which I found very enriching. Three years later, in 2022, from her I heard about the course “What boards speak about” within the Executive Summer School. The content of the course resonated very much with my professional needs and I did not hesitate a second whether to join it or not. I appreciate very much an attention from Julia and the whole Alumni Relations Team, the quality of the job they do and the personal attitude I experience in every communication with them. In fact, the reality was even better than my expectations. The course covered various topics a top-executive has to keep in focus: from geopolitics till well-being, from global trends in business till ethical dilemmas, from organizational structure till the creativity which can emerge from the contemplation of art. The professors were simply brilliant. All of them had a wide theoretical and practical knowledge and impressive record of accomplishment in business. What I especially liked about the group is that it was really diverse. There were people from different industries, countries and continents, with different views and experience but equally bright and motivated for further development. As I mentioned, the entire faculty was amazing. For me personally the most impactful were topics related with sustainability, from Gonzalo Delacamara, megatrends, especially in Asia, from Peter Fisk, and leadership, from Emma Giner. And I can’t help mentioning an absolutely amazing morning we spent in the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum, when the whole museum was opened just for us. It was unforgettable. One may call it a coincidence, but in 6 months after the course’s end, I was appointed as a supervisory board member in one of banks. In any case, with the knowledge I had, I felt well prepared for a new challenge."
