Santander and IE Foundation launch 100 online scholarships to educate the best digital legal talent

100 Santander IE Scholarships for law students or young professionals from 9 countries to give them new digital tools and skills to enhance their employability. Applications can be made at www.becas-santander.com until June 15.

Banco Santander, through Santander Universities, and IE Foundation, the foundation of IE University, are launching 100 Santander Tech4Law Scholarships for law graduates of the last four years or current students in their final year.

The scholarships are aimed at young talent from nine countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, the United States, Spain, Mexico, Poland, Portugal and the United Kingdom) to encourage and develop their digital skills and knowledge of legal tech and improve their employability.

The 100 selected candidates will be able to take the Santander IE Tech4Law High Impact Online Course, which runs for five weeks. The program is 100% online and will be taught exclusively in English, with academic supervision from IE University’s Law School, internationally recognized for legal education.

The training program has been designed jointly by the Legal Department of Banco Santander and IE Law School, in collaboration with Santander Universities and IE Exponential Learning to meet the real needs that companies demand in digital and changing environments.

“When faced with clients or consumers who are used to finding solutions at a click, the work of lawyers cannot remain anchored in formulas that were valid in the 19th or 20th century.”

Óscar García Maceiras, Global Director of the Legal Department of Banco Santander, said: “When faced with clients or consumers who are used to finding solutions at a click, the work of lawyers cannot remain anchored in formulas that were valid in the 19th or 20th century.” He added: “The financial sector is a clear example of this, and at Banco Santander we want to contribute to supporting a new generation of lawyers who know how to operate in this environment. For this reason, through collaboration between IE and the Bank’s universities and legal departments, we offer a complete program of training grants and internships so that students and young law graduates can develop their professional careers with greater possibilities of success.”

“Digital transformation is revolutionizing all sectors and more than ever in these times of lockdown.”

Soledad Atienza, Vice Dean of IE Law School, said: “Digital transformation is revolutionizing all sectors and more than ever in these times of lockdown. It is a pleasure to collaborate with Banco Santander to promote talent in the legal sector. At IE Law School we train the best business lawyers in legal and digital skills and competencies with a global perspective. The transformation of the legal sector and society towards technology and digitalization requires that tomorrow’s lawyers are prepared to respond to this new reality. We share with Santander the vocation to train business lawyers in the digitalization of the legal practice.”

Students in this program will develop a knowledge base and experiences on a range of technologies that offer competitive advantages and new business models in the legal sector. In addition, participants will acquire a series of skills and tools to understand the driving forces and challenges of legal innovation in a digital world.

The 10 students who perform best in this program will participate in a selection process for professional practices in the Legal Area of Banco Santander and will have the possibility of joining the team.

In addition, the IE Foundation and IE Law School will offer a scholarship to study the Master in Legal Tech at IE University to one of the best candidates who has participated in the program and who meets the admission requirements and criteria of the IE Foundation Scholarship Committee. This cutting-edge program is offered in both online and face-to-face modes and lasts 10 months, with residential periods in Madrid, Silicon Valley and Israel.

The application process is open and candidates can register until June 15, 2020 at www.becas-santander.com.
