ABOUT OUR CREATIVE CAMPUS

Our Creative Campus is not just a place; it’s a state of mind. Whether in Segovia, in Madrid or on our global online campus, IE School of Architecture and Design offers the latest tech for experimentation, production and the testing of ideas. But it’s also where creative minds from different disciplines meet to collaborate. Where the IE Community reaches out to the wider community to provide real solutions for future challenges at all scales.

Our vibrant Creative Campus is equipped with a Fab Lab, construction, biomaterials and textile research laboratories, experimentation workshops, digital fabrication classrooms, and an exhibition area.

OUR CREATIVE CAMPUS' PHILOSOPHY

Our creative campus embodies our school's philosophy, and is the place where we embrace DESIGN AHEAD as the school's ethos, always at the forefront and embracing the academic responsibility of setting new design standards in various areas. It is the place where we commit to CRAFT, reflected in our facilities, and foster a CREATIVE ECOSYSTEM, where we not only create but also distribute what's created to make an impact through exhibitions, publications, and more. It is the place, where we also strive to become a PUBLIC FACE AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, as we are not just an educational institution; we actively contribute to our surrounding communities in Segovia, Madrid, and beyond, through various initiatives.

OUR FAB LAB

The IE University Fab Lab is a distinctive learning environment where students can bring their ideas to life through experimentation, innovation, and high-quality design. This space enables students to create and test their projects using state-of-the-art digital fabrication technology, as well as traditional woodworking tools, ceramics, and casting equipment.

IE University’s Fab Lab is also an official member of the global Fab Lab Network, offering access to a vast community of students, academics, scientists, and researchers spanning over 90 countries.

The purpose of the Fab Lab is to provide students with access to the environment, materials, and advanced technology needed to turn a spark of inspiration into reality. Within this innovative space, students can fully immerse themselves in our hands-on learning philosophy, exploring various digital and analog design processes using a wide range of tools.

The Mansilla Palace, the IE University Creative Campus

HISTORIC BUILDING

The historic Palacio de Mansilla, protected under heritage decrees, is undergoing a rehabilitation project. The renovation includes interior upgrades, structural reinforcements, and the adaptation of spaces for educational purposes, featuring classrooms, workshops, and laboratories across all floors. Additionally, the project encompasses administrative areas, exhibition spaces, and outdoor recreational areas.

The exterior will undergo cleaning and restoration, including the renewal of gutters and landscaping with natural stone pavement. IE University's commitment to Segovia as an educational hub continues, since 2007. With this renovation, the institution further solidifies its presence, repurposing an unused building for modern educational needs.

SOCIAL HERITAGE

The Palacio de Mansilla has been a central university hub for Segovia and its residents for over four decades. Until 1969, Segovia lacked a local university, prompting efforts led by Adolfo Suárez to establish the Segovia University College, named after Domingo de Soto. With support from Caja Segovia, the institution opened its doors in November 1969, housed in the historic building on Trinidad Street.

The architectural ensemble, dating back to the 13th century, showcases various styles, including Plateresque and Baroque elements. The building underwent successive reforms over the years, adapting it to modern university standards. Today, the Palacio de Mansilla stands as a testament to Segovia's commitment to higher education and its rich architectural heritage.
