- Art & Law Speaker Series With Luis María Benito From Bamboo.legal
The IE School of Humanities kicked off its Art & Law Speaker Series with an interesting session focused on the legal aspects of artistic creation. This event, organized in collaboration with the IE Arts & Business Club, IE Law School, and IE Campus Life, featured intellectual property lawyer Luis María Benito Cerezo from Bamboo.legal, who led the discussion. Students from across disciplines joined to better understand how legal protections shape the production, distribution, and preservation.
Benito led the audience in exploring fundamental topics like copyright law, moral rights, and how the law defines an artwork. He also raised complex questions about site-specific installations—how relocating them can not only change their meaning but also affect their legal status. "Artists have the right to be recognized as the creators of their work," he emphasized, "and that recognition is essential to protecting their identity and legacy."
The session marked the beginning of a new interdisciplinary series designed to connect students with professionals working at the intersection of the humanities and legal practice. More conversations are on the way, offering fresh perspectives on the challenges artists and institutions face in today’s cultural landscape.
