From Campus to Practice: Exploring Digital Heritage at Factum Arte

The visit to Factum Arte marked the culmination of an academic day at the Segovia campus focused on the application of digital technologies to the study and preservation of cultural heritage. The activity was developed as a collaboration between the Archaeology and Digital Image courses.

Throughout the day, students took part in four sessions combining theoretical and practical learning. They explored techniques such as photogrammetry and 3D scanning, applying them directly to the historic structures of the former convent that houses the campus. This hands-on approach allowed them to engage with real heritage contexts while developing technical skills.

The day concluded with the processing of the collected data and an introduction to specialized software used to generate digital models tailored to different research and conservation needs.

The visit to Factum Arte provided students with direct insight into how these technologies are applied in professional environments. Known for its work at the intersection of art, technology, and heritage, the studio offered a valuable perspective on potential career paths and the real-world relevance of the knowledge acquired in the classroom.

Daniela Alejandra Moreno, one of our Humanities Students has stated “I think it is essential to identify these kinds of connections not only between courses, but also between the classroom and real life. Not to mention that Factum is one of the coolest places I have ever visited!”
