- Philosophers In Conversation: Greek Ethics With Carlos García Gual
As part of the “Philosophers in Conversation” series, IE School of Humanities hosted Carlos García Gual—professor emeritus at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and esteemed member of the Real Academia Española (RAE)—for an intimate discussion on the enduring relevance of Greek ethical philosophy.
He traced the evolution of practical philosophy through pivotal classical milestones: the epic wisdom of Homer, the intellectual revolution of Plato, the ethical systematization in Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, and the particular form of hedonism championed by Epicurus. Themes such as happiness, justice, prudence, virtue, and the concept of the “golden mean” were explored, highlighting their lasting resonance in contemporary discourse.
This event concluded a rich series of philosophical sessions that previously explored the ideas of Hegel, Descartes, and Kant—ultimately bringing us back to the classical foundations of Western thought. These gatherings reflect IE School of Humanities’ commitment to bridging the gap between the business world and the humanities, promoting critical thinking and interdisciplinary engagement.
