Students from the IE History and Archaeology Club had the unique opportunity to explore the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its historical, cultural, and architectural significance.
Led by Professor Jesús Miguel Del Valle, the guided tour provided students with in-depth insights into the monastery’s origins, built in the 16th century under the reign of King Felipe II. The visit explored how the structure reflects the ideals of Spain’s Golden Age, blending Renaissance design with political and religious symbolism.
This enriching experience allowed students to connect classroom learning with a tangible example of historical legacy, deepening their understanding of Spanish history, imperial politics, and architectural heritage.
