Poetry breakfast with Maram Al-Masri

In collaboration with Casa Árabe, IE School of Humanities welcomed Franco-Syrian poet Maram Al-Masri for a special poetry breakfast held at IE Tower.

Organized in the context of International Women’s Day, the event brought together students from Professor Celia de Anca’s Feminism, Literature & Business course and Professor Goretti González’s Women Leaders course for a morning of poetry, reflection, and dialogue.

The event was opened by Sophia Sampaio, Executive Director at IE School of Humanities, and during the session, Maram al-Masri read selected poems from her acclaimed book Barefoot Souls in Arabic, allowing attendees to experience the musicality and emotional depth of her original language. Students then joined by reading the poems in French and English, creating a multilingual and intercultural exchange that reflects IE’s global academic environment.

The event also featured the participation of Olivia Orozco from Casa Árabe, whose presence enriched the conversation and reinforced the importance of cultural dialogue and collaboration.

This gathering offered a unique opportunity to engage with contemporary Arab literature while exploring themes such as womanhood, exile, love, and resilience. It also highlighted the power of poetry as a bridge between cultures and as a platform for amplifying women’s voices.
