John Worthington

Professor of Design of Work Environments

John Worthington co-founded DEGW in 1973, a strategic workplace consultancy with offices in Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Americas. Among important assignments developed were high building strategies for the cities of Rotterdam, London and Dublin, where he continues to advise on managing the process of innovation and change.

He served as a board member for London Thames Gateway Development Corporation (2004–09), chair of CABE/RIBA Building Futures (2003-06) and has been a past chair and is a current patron of the Urban Design Group UK. He is also a member of the board of directors of the London-based organization, The Academy of Urbanism. Significant publications by Worthington include, Reinventing the Workplace (2nd ed. Architectural Press 2006) and Managing the Brief for Better Design (co-authored with Alastair Blythe, 2nd ed. Routledge 2010).

Past academic appointments include Professor of Architecture and Director of the Institute of Advanced Architectural Studies, the University of York, visiting professorships at the University of Sheffield, Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg and professorial fellow at the University of Melbourne.
