About me

I’ve always believed in the power of adaptability, integrity and bridging global vision with local expertise. As a 30-year executive at KT Corporation—formerly Korea Telecom—some might say I’d already reached the pinnacle of my career. But I decided to head back to the classroom because I wanted the tools to expand my company’s already global reach. More importantly, I saw pursuing the International MBA as an investment in myself, one that would prepare me to take on even greater professional responsibilities in the future.

Q&A WITH ANDY

Describe your experience at IE Business School in one sentence.

IE Business School was like the perfect workplace—structured, challenging and fun.

What’s it like to study in Madrid?

For me, studying in Madrid started out as a purely pragmatic choice. It’s a major European capital, and I wanted to learn more about the people, rich culture and business landscape. Plus, being in a big city gave me direct access to companies and events that made everything I learned more tangible.

When I wasn’t studying, my wife and I would explore Spain, enjoy amazing food and festivals, and travel across Europe. I even got to attend almost every match at Santiago Bernabéu stadium! It wasn’t just an education; it was a full life experience.

What was your biggest challenge in the program?

My biggest challenge was getting used to the team-based learning format. But by the end of the program, it had become the most valuable part of the experience for me. I encourage others to stay adaptable to get the most out of this dynamic academic journey.

What was your biggest takeaway?

My journey showed me how important adaptability is in business. An MBA gives you options—career shifts, personal growth, global opportunities—but you need to be ready and flexible in order to make the most of them.

What benefits did you gain beyond the classroom?

An extra benefit was improving my Spanish skills. I see language as a strategic tool. I’m gearing up for new growth opportunities in the US, Latin America and other Spanish-speaking markets, including Spain, so mastering the language was an important first step. Spain offered access to these cultures, and IE Business School’s diversity really stood out.

What’s one unexpected benefit of the MBA experience?

IE helped me see just how interconnected the world really is. You start with classmates, and before you know it, they’re collaborators, advisors, and lifelong friends from all over the globe.

What will you remember most from the program?

What stayed with me most were the people. Their perspectives, their kindness—it made all the difference. We started as classmates and before you know it, they were collaborators, advisors and lifelong friends from all over the globe.

Have you kept in touch with your classmates or the IE alumni network?

Yes. We’re still connected via WhatsApp and other networks. In Korea, we have a strong IE alumni group. And even during business trips—like one I had with Real Madrid—I got to meet other IE grads who opened doors and introduced me to amazing people. That kind of network is priceless.

What advice would you give to new IE students or MBA candidates?

Have a clear plan—not just for the program, but for what comes after. The MBA gives you so many chances to pivot, grow, and connect, but if you’re not prepared, you might miss them. And again, study Spanish! It’ll enhance your experience, both personally and professionally. Also, keep an open mind—your classmates will be some of your greatest teachers.
