Cultural Visit to the Real Basílica de San Francisco El Grande with Ambassador Gonzalo Quintero Saravia

As part of its ongoing commitment to cultural enrichment and academic engagement, IE School of Humanities hosted a special visit to one of Madrid’s most iconic architectural and artistic landmarks—the Real Basílica de San Francisco El Grande. Situated in the historic La Latina neighborhood, this neoclassical church is renowned for its massive dome—one of the largest in Europe—and its richly decorated interior featuring marble, gold detailing, and intricate frescoes.

The tour was led by Gonzalo Quintero Saravia, a distinguished Spanish diplomat and former Ambassador of Spain to Pakistan, who provided our faculty community with an engaging and informative explanation of the basilica’s historical and artistic significance. The event was further enhanced by the involvement and support of Professor Manuel Lucena Giraldo.
