IE University and the European Climate Foundation join forces to shape the next generation of climate policy leaders
The partnership will support teaching, research, public dialogue and student opportunities linked to the new Master in Public Policy starting in September 2026.
IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs has signed an agreement with The European Climate Foundation (ECF), a philanthropic initiative working to foster the net-zero transition and ensure a healthy, thriving planet for current and future generations. Through this alliance, ECF becomes a key partner for the new Master in Public Policy, contributing, in particular, to its specialization in Environment, Energy and Sustainability.
Both institutions will maintain academic collaboration through a range of joint initiatives such as the development of capstones, competitions, case studies, a summer research program and the participation of ECF experts in the Bachelor in Political Science and the Master in Public Policy as lecturers, guest speakers or curriculum advisors.
Additionally, IE University and ECF will organize and co-convene events such as an annual thematic initiative to be hosted by IE University and aimed at deepening students’ understanding of European climate policy, encouraging youth participation and fostering dialogue. The agreement also sets the ground for a talent development pathway, with potential internship opportunities for IE University students.
"Having the European Climate Foundation as a partner for the new Master in Public Policy will significantly enrich our students’ learning journey by exposing them to the work of a leading actor of the green transition in Europe," said Dean Enrico Letta, Dean at IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs. "ECF brings extensive expertise in advancing sustainability, from supporting Europe’s industrial transformation toward a more sustainable and inclusive model, to rethinking the future of philanthropy and climate action. This partnership will provide our students with valuable practical experience throughout the Master in Public Policy program."
Javier Martinez, Organisational Development Director at ECF, highlighted the importance of people-centered policymaking: "Climate policy only works if it works for people. We strive for a socially responsible transition built on evidence and broad support, and we’re thrilled to partner with IE University to help prepare future leaders to deliver climate solutions that are both ambitious and fair."
Starting in September 2026, the specialization in Environment, Energy and Sustainability within the Master in Public Policy will equip students to address the complex challenges shaping the future of climate governance. The program will explore how climate policy, biodiversity protection, and renewable energy intersect with innovation, regulation, and economic development. Students will also learn to design scalable solutions that promote ecological resilience and green growth, while examining the role of digital technologies, circular economy strategies, and international cooperation in advancing environmental goals.
