Mars Conquest - Take the challenge

International relations are all about creating a balance between leadership and security. It’s all about engaging in difficult economic, political and social dynamics that go beyond borders and cultures to solve global issues.

Mars conquest is the game created by The IE School of International Relations in order to give you a taste of what it takes to be a negotiator. The main objective of the game is to colonize Mars, but in order to do that, you need the right amount of power and technology. You will have the possibility to decide to play as Russia, USA, Iran, Brazil, India, Japan, Pakistan, China and Europe as a continent. Each of these countries or United Nations has a space program, but some are more powerful than others. During the game, you will have to make decisions about sharing your technology, or in case you don´t have the technology yet, to steal it from your competitor, spy on them, or create a bilateral agreement with another country. You can also decide to isolate yourself from other countries and the UN and conquer Mars for yourself. Every action has a consequence which could strengthen the relationship with other countries and institutions or avoid any kind of collaboration and break international agreements such as the Outer Space Treaty.

This is just an approach that demonstrates in which way the IE School of International Relations focuses in transmitting the importance of learning the ability of negotiation and the importance of keeping up with new technology trends.

The program employs a case study approach and seminar discussions in the IR Lab. These are semester-long courses which simulate real-life challenges and train students in critical areas such as conflict resolution, negotiation, strategy, and public speaking. Students also have the opportunity to participate in selective internship placements in a variety of institutions.

Our multi-disciplinary approach specifically trains students to understand complexity.
