Capstone & Final Project

A vital puzzle piece in a student’s academic journey is what he does with the tools and knowledge learnt over the years. In their final year of studies, students submit a final project, which consists of a thorough study of any aspect related to the subjects covered during the degree and will give students the opportunity to apply and integrate the knowledge acquired throughout their career.

This experience helps the students reflect on various aspects of the discipline, create new knowledge that will give them the opportunity to contribute to the discussion of the discipline and also enrich their professional future.

The  purpose  of  the  Final Project  is  the  elaboration  and  presentation of an independent, original, thorough and individually elaborated research work on a certain legal aspect or a topic related to their degree.

For further information, please find enclosed the Final Project Regulation.

CAPSTONE FINAL PROJECT

The Capstone option is a group-based, consultancy-oriented Final Project option, offered in collaboration with outside partner organizations. Each project is unique and requires students to complete potentially varying tasks, such as providing legal analysis of cases, review of legal documents, drafting of legal documents, development of arguments for conflict resolution, writing reports for legislators on current policy issues, etc..

The Capstone option is a career-building exercise representing the culmination of the students’ studies. It gives them the opportunity to implement what they learned in a realistic teamwork environment and to produce independent, impactful research and recommendations to clients and other stakeholders.

Each Capstone project will be led by an IE Law School faculty member with expertise in the area of the project. This professor will act as a supervisor over the course of the semester.

Although the Capstone projects have a different structure to conventional final projects given the group work element with the partnering organization, the final submission of the paper, the oral defense and overall final grade will all be individual.

The capstone project is 12 ECTS, completed in the final year of studies. Please find below relevant information about 2025-2026 Capstone Projects: Capstone Final Project Syllabus – 25-26
