About me

I’ve spent my entire career in the world of technology, from software engineering to enterprise architecture, and I’ve loved every step of it. I studied Computer Engineering at Universidad Autónoma in Madrid and have worked in various technical roles across consulting, systems architecture, and IT strategy. But as I moved into more leadership positions, I realized that my growth couldn’t just come from staying current on tech alone, I needed to develop in areas like finance, marketing, HR, and leadership. That desire to grow is what brought me to IE Business School’s Global Executive MBA.

The program offered exactly what I was looking for: rigorous content, flexibility for my demanding career, and a truly diverse global cohort. Although I studied during the pandemic, which meant most of our experience was online, it was surprisingly immersive. We built a tight-knit community that continues to stay connected, even years after graduation. Today, I serve as Head of Digital Product and IT Portfolio at Swiss International Airlines, where I lead digital strategy and innovation across the company. And I’m also passionate about creating space for women in tech, working as a coach for nonprofit organizations that help women relaunch their careers after time away from the workforce.

Q&A WITH ANA

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO PURSUE THE GLOBAL EXECUTIVE MBA AT IE?

I’ve always believed in continuous learning. Throughout my career in IT, I’ve constantly updated my technical skills, because staying current is part of the job. But when I transitioned into leadership roles, I realized I needed to broaden my expertise beyond technology. I wanted to develop in areas that would help me grow as a leader, strategy, finance, communication and IE’s Global Executive MBA offered exactly that.

The diversity of the classroom, the global perspective, and the flexibility of the program really stood out to me. As a full-time professional, I needed a program that could fit into my work-life balance, while still being academically rigorous. IE provided that. It wasn’t easy, it was a huge effort, but it was absolutely worth it.

WHAT MADE THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE SO IMMERSIVE FOR YOU?

Interestingly, I studied during the height of the pandemic, so most of our experience was fully digital. But that almost made it more immersive. After long workdays, we would all log on at night, sometimes from 8 p.m. until 2 or 3 in the morning, to study, collaborate, and work on assignments together.

What also helped was the access to professors and facilitators, who were incredibly supportive and responsive. Despite being physically apart, the energy, collaboration, and shared commitment made the learning experience incredibly engaging.

HOW DID THE PROGRAM’S FLEXIBILITY AND PERSONALIZATION SUPPORT YOUR GROWTH?

Although we missed out on some of the in-person international residentials due to COVID, IE was very flexible in adapting the experience. We were even offered chances to connect with other groups later, which helped make up for what we missed.

The coaching component, in particular, was a standout for me. At that point in my career, I was preparing to move into more senior executive roles, and the coaching helped me shape my leadership style, refine how I present myself, and better understand how to navigate executive-level conversations. It gave me the clarity and confidence I needed to take the next step.

WHAT MAKES THE GLOBAL EXECUTIVE MBA SO SPECIAL TO YOU?

One word: People.

The classmates, professors, and facilitators made the program extraordinary. Despite the virtual setting, we built a powerful network, and years later, we’re still in touch. That human connection made the learning even more meaningful. It wasn’t just about the content, it was about the relationships, shared experiences, and collective support throughout the journey.

WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE DURING THE PROGRAM?

Graduation was definitely a highlight, especially after 15 months of isolation. Being able to come together in person and celebrate all we’d accomplished was incredibly special.

But if I had to choose a deeper takeaway, it was realizing that the “global” in Global Executive MBA is real. I was in a classroom with people from across the world, each with different backgrounds, perspectives, and cultures, and yet, we learned to collaborate, challenge, and grow together. In today’s world, that ability to find common ground is invaluable.

HOW HAS THE PROGRAM EQUIPPED YOU FOR YOUR ROLE AT SWISS INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES?

In my current role, I lead digital product and IT portfolio strategy for Swiss International Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group. We handle digital demand across all business units, HR, finance, cargo, flight operations, and more. The Global Executive MBA gave me the tools to communicate confidently across departments, speak the language of finance and business, and lead cross-functional teams effectively.

For someone like me, with a purely technical background, gaining that broader business foundation has been transformative. I can now operate at the intersection of technology and leadership, and speak with confidence to both my executive board and my team.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS CONSIDERING THE GXMBA?

Absolutely go for it! But go in with your eyes open. This is a big commitment, not just for you, but also for your family, your team, and your support system. It requires time, energy, and dedication. But if you’re ready to embrace it, it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.

WHAT DO YOU THINK STUDENTS NEED MOST TO SUCCEED IN TODAY’S PROFESSIONAL WORLD?

The most important thing today is having an adaptable, agile mindset.

The world is changing rapidly, and you have to be ready for everything. Embrace change, don’t fear it. See it as a chance to grow. You may go through uncomfortable phases, but every challenge brings learning. Build confidence in your past achievements and stay curious, it will carry you far!

HOW CAN WE ENCOURAGE MORE WOMEN TO PURSUE CAREERS IN STEM?

Visibility matters. When I studied Computer Engineering, we were a class of nearly a thousand, and fewer than ten were women. That disparity carries into the business world. So we need more representation and visibility. Women in STEM should show up, speak up, and be seen, especially at conferences, hackathons, and industry events.

I also work with a nonprofit in Switzerland that helps women return to the workforce after career breaks. Many of them lack confidence, especially in tech. As a coach, I help them rebuild their skills and their belief in themselves. Seeing other women in leadership roles is often what gives them the courage to try.

So my message is simple: we don’t need to be shy, we need to be present.

WHAT DOES INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS MEAN TO YOU?

I don’t know if I inspire others, but I try to live by the values I believe in, especially when it comes to education. For me, education is not just a personal goal; it’s a core value. Whether I’m at work, at home, or with friends and family, I always emphasize the importance of learning and staying curious.

If there’s one message I hope people take from me, it’s that education opens doors, not just professionally, but in life.
